To everyone I may have pissed off:
I apologize for having sarcastic remarks to what I thought was sarcastic uninformative answers. I did not realize that my remarks would result in a ban when they contained to cursing or obscene remarks. I understand that most that replied did not have a good answer to my question and continued to refer me to the stickies. I am probably one of the only people that have made a book of the stickies to keep in my shop so while I'm working I have a ref book to go to before asking a noob question to you all on the forum. I am only new to knife making, and do not need to get into what my credentials are. I do know that I should of ignored what I thought was jibbing from others. I do apologize sincerely and really enjoy being on this forum. I have learned alot and want to able to continue to have decent relationships with everyone I can on here.

To blues: If you were me, honestly, don't you think if you received a warning for what I said, you would take it as a joke and joke back by reporting it as spam? Well obviously not cause you banned me forever for it. I'm sorry to have insulted your modness. I didn't realize everyone was so touchy. I mean come on man, if I would of been cursing and effin everyone I could see where my ban would be forever. Please lift my ban on that account. I apologize to you for being out of line after you sent the warning. I just kind of snapped.

I have always been floored by the generosity of the great makers on this forum. Knowledge and information is shared, materials are shared and most importantly, good relationships are formed with people you might not ever have an opportunity to meet. I often comment that my mentor has been Shop Talk. I'm lucky enough to not just learn under one maker but an entire group of them. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but a person has to know when to just shut up. Reputations are built over a period of time. They're not just handed to you. You're right about one thing, some others here would have been treated different. That's something they have earned over a long period of time. If I were to give you one piece of advise it would be to drop the ego and show respect to not only the makers but also the moderators. Blues is about as fair as they come.

Hopefully this all gets worked out and we can see some of your work soon. Looking forward to it.

Camden, send me an email to blues@bladeforums.com please and we'll see if we can get this resolved. (I actually banned your latest persona before reading your post here.)

If we get this matter straightened out I will lift the ban. I'll wait to hear from you and we'll take it from there.

The thanks are mutual, Stacy.

Camden has been reinstated. Thanks to you all for your thoughts and contributions.

This sounds like a sensible and sincere apology to me.

Camden, just to give you a little background so you might understand better what happened, Frank Niro is like our helpful old grandpa. Well ok, he may not be quite that old (sorry Frank ;)) but it gives you an idea of how he is liked around here and the reactions toward any replies directed at him that are on the dry side, be it in joke or not. I hope that makes sense, not the best orator here.

I completely understand. And won't happen again. Ok shows over people, return to your caves and make some awesome blades. As for me. It's time to light a cigarette and clean up my work station cause it is looking like Tasmanian devil spun in a pile of saw dust and metal shavings. Cheers

I'm not sure I ever saw anyone reinstated. Says a lot for both the OP and mods, good on ya.
Ken

Welcome back!

I hope Stacy's answers helped leading you towards Cru Forge V or 52100 as comparable steels.

Yeah the cruforgev seems nice in paper but I'm afraid it's not gonna be too friendly with my setup for heat treating it. I may buy a piece and send it out for heat treating. Any suggestions on affordable heat treaters? Thanks

Cruforge-V isn't all that hard to HT if you have an oven or well controlled forge. If you can HT O-1, you should be able to HT Cruforge-V. Peters HT is a pro at all steels we use.

Glad this was sorted out and resolved.

I never saw anyone answer his question? AISI 50100B is also known as 1095-CroVan or Camilus and Cold Steel's Carbon V. It was a proprietary blade alloy from Sharon Steel. It falls somewhere between O-1 and 52100. Cruforge V has nearly 4 times the vanadium...

0170-6 - 50100-B

These are different designations for the same steel: 0170-6 is the steel makers classification, 50100-B is the AISI designation. A good chrome-vanadium steel that is somewhat similar to O1, but much less expensive. The now-defunct Blackjack made several knives from O170-6, and Carbon V may be 0170-6. 50100 is basically 52100 with about 1/3 the chromium of 52100, and the B in 50100-B indicates that the steel has been modified with vanadium, making this a chrome-vanadium steel.

Thanks again! Yea Stacy answered it in another thread earlier. But your links were helpful.

Welcome back Camden and I mean that sincerly. Yes I am old, even older than Don Robinson believe it or not. THis is a GREAT place !!! When I started making knives I don't know if they even had computers. Well, that's not true but I didn't have one. Part of the great thing is that all of the stuff I still don't know I can ask about here and get ansdwers for: part of the bad thing here is we don't know each other well enough. My very best to you, Camden. Frank
