Well I didn't think this was possible but I finally found a knife worthy enough to rival my paramilitary 2. I found this in my mailbox this morning (thanks hoodep!). I didn't have the greatest experience with the first 0551 I bought, but this one is perfect. The blade is dead center, lock up is great, and the overall fit and finish is flawless. For a knife that has been described as "a brick" it certainly disappears into the pocket just as easy as my para. It is slightly heavier but the tank-like feel of it makes it worth it. It opens really smooth, although I am still getting used to the thumb-stud (used to the spydie hole). I am very tempted to pick up some CF scales for this. I am extremely impressed with this model. Here are some comparison shots.

Love those cigars man. The Ruinations are great. Oh, and the 0551 is a great knife too!

Yeah, if you are on the fence on this one I would definitely grab it. I have been through more knives than I can count in the last 2 years, and most end up in my hand for all of 5 seconds then go immediately up for sale. This one just seems to fit absolutely perfectly in the hand. It is a keeper for sure, and I am going to force myself to make it a user as well.

It is truly a perfect knife. Iv had it for about 6 months? It has NOT left my pocket. Not even a day. And trust me when I say you wont be dissapointed with it. I reprofiled the edge on it and brought the relief edge way up. Cuts a lot better and is a lot easier to maintain. Only have had to actually "sharpen" it once (to reprofile). After that its just been stropping every week or so and its still razor sharp. Ill see if I can get some pics up of it. Wish I had picked up another one...then again with ZT's line up (0550, 560/561,0777) you cant really blame a guy for not having enough money for another :)

Ok, after screwing around being all indecisive for the last 6 months - why not? 0551 incoming. We'll see if you guy's know what you're talking about.;)

Congrats man

ZT nailed it with the 0551. The customizable scales will be a hit as well.

I'm eyeing the translucent green myself.

The 0551 is edgeing out my other knives for pocket time, even my beloved ZT 0301. The size is perfect. We'll see what happens when my 0560 arrives.

I have a quick question that you guys might know off the top of your heads - what HRC is the Elmax in the 0551 run at?

So after a few days of having one I am truly loving it. Just a quick question though. I am right handed but for some reason I am having some trouble opening the knife with my right hand. I can open it extremely easily using my left hand but when I try and open it in my right it has some resistance. Did anyone else experience anything like this? The knife is perfectly centered and all. Maybe I just need to break it in a little more?

Maybe you're putting light pressure on the lock bar with your fingers?

I had the same trouble opening mine right handed when new. I think because of the strong detent, any pressure on the lock bar when opening the knife makes it hard to open. I found that taking my middle finger off the lock bar while opening it helped. Mine has since loosened up so it is no longer an issue.

You evidently have a defective 0551. Since I am a lefty, I will be glad to have you ship it to me to keep my Battleship Gray scaled 0551 company :D

Ah thanks guys! I didn't even think about the pressure on the lock bar. Now an even more pressing question... what color scales do I pick up from Hinderer? I have narrowed it down to either "blue black", "battleship gray" or CF.

I dont own a zt personaly but I would go with the Carbon fiber it looks so awsome and is the same price as the g 10 scales.

The CF is actually more money than the g10. I'm very close to getting the battleship gray myself.

My 551 sees more carry time than my XM-24. That's because it's summer and I'm in shorts when off work.

Mine loosened up and opens like butter. In fact it makes me re-think my affection of flippers. Now, which frag is the question....

right now it's my current EDC, still shaving sharp and opens smooth after i adjusted the pivot. I'm torn on scale to get as well, I love the CF, but the Orange and the Blue is also to my liking. can someone post a pic of the battleship grey on theirs?
