As an aside, what I'd really like to see ZT produce is a derivative of the 3" Hinderer XM-18. And yes, if you manufacture that I'll pay full pop for it!

Count me in.

Need some 3" blade, lightweight, thin and slim ZT knives. As in plural. There's a big market for 3" blades.

MASSIVE market. But not for 3" blades with steel frames and AO . . . at least not in my neighborhood. If I wanted that, I'd buy a Cryo.

Like a slimmer, lighter, thinner and shorter 0550 with 3" blade. Even though I have a 0560CBCF my favorite ZT is the 0550BLK with the Rick Hinderer CF scale.

I got me and alot of other members CBCFs for $300.
That's more like it! You seem to be pretty close to the source. Is there anything you could do to talk ZT into building a REAL 3" Hinderer XM derivative . . . you know, one with a Titanium handle and without the AO? Or has the 0566 all but killed any hope of that? :(

That is an awesome blade and looks wicked cool. I may need to order one of those cf scales.
My 2nd Gen 550 is my current fav but have a 550blk and 560cbcf both in route.
I think the 550blk will take over as my EDC blade

The 0566 has a detent hole, so it can deassissted.

With the CF scales it handles better and thinner in my hand. Also, I can draw it faster. The G10 scales that come with the 0555 series are too rough for me and it snags.

The 0550BLK with the RH CF scales looks great -- even better in person. Everything about it worked great from day one.

The 0550BLK was made in limited quantities and I got a great price from KershawGuy as a repeat customer.

True. But deassisting it won't reduce its weight by almost two ounces. That's what would it would take to make the 0566 as light as a 3" XM-18. And lightness is a big part of what makes the 3" XM-18 the knife that it is. You could call it the "gentleman's" version of the XM series if you like.

To be honest with you, I don't think ZT has any interest in building gentlemen's knives. That isn't right or wrong. It just doesn't fit with ZT's design philosophy. If a knifemaker like Rick Hinderer wants to partner with a company to produce lightweight folders like the 3" XM-18, I suspect he'd be better off looking elsewhere.

Last Time I checked Hinderer Built knives that are as there site says OVERBUILT - TOUGH - DEPENDABLE.....I don't see the word light anywhere...Hinderer and ZT make knives geared towards Military/LEO/EMS and don't really care about how much oz there knife is . I'm pretty sure Hinderer is more then happy with ZT and can't wait to see what they develop next.

So if Hinderer can make an "OVERBUILT - TOUGH - DEPENDABLE" knife that only weighs 3.6 ounces, why can't ZT?

For a gentleman's knife lightweight, thinness, slimness and 3" blade (local laws) are almost mandatory. ZT has no such offering.

The three I use most often in that capacity are: Kershaw Random Leek Reverse Tanto (1660TGRYST), Chris Reeve Small Sebenza 21 and CRKT Eros (K455TXP). Respectively, they weigh 3 oz, 3 oz and 1.4 oz. The last one gets the most carry right now. By comparison, the Rick Hinderer XM-18 with 3" Stonewash blade weighs 3.6 oz.

I can't think of the last time I've bought a knife and the deciding factor was the weight. I'm pretty sure ZT knows what they're doing.

I can't remember the last time I bought a knife where weight was NOT a deciding issue. And I'm also sure ZT knows what they're doing. Knowing what they're doing has nothing to do with it. If it's a problem at all, it's Rick's to deal with . . . not ZTs. But a man can hope, if you know what I mean.

You guys are weird... If you have such precise demands for a knife, get one made for you. If you can't afford it, wait until you can or find better income. I mean...really? It's a company's fault they don't make things you specify?

That's a fair statement. Again, my hope is that ZT (with a little coaxing from Rick, perhaps) will see the light and not let an extremely popular version of a product they've partnered to produce end up on the cutting room floor.
