Just curious. I have been loving my 0600. Just curious about what everyone's lock up is looking like. Does anyone have later lockup than they expected? I know this is personal preference but still trying to gauge the norm for this model. I cant tell if mine is late or if my eyes are playing tricks on me due to the thin handle slabs. Here is mine.

I think to gauge the lockup, you should take a pick from the opposite side, so you can see the lockbar insert interface with the blade tang, the TI doesn't touch the blade tang. On my 0600 it's about 40%

I think the steel insert takes away concerns for lockbar wearing quickly. It'll be a good long while, and I'll just get a replacement then.

actually thats the reason i brought this up. I asked for one from warranty and was denied. They claimed that due to the limited production of the 0600 that parts are very scarce and none will be shipped out. They told me that if a problem developed down the road that they would fix it to the best of their means. But in my experience they dont seem to keep parts for knives once they have stopped production. I think it would be better if they designed a lockbar insert that was universal that way replacements would be available.

15% would be a bit early for me.

As it would with me. But It would give me something I would be able to work with and I could tune it to my liking. The design of the insert and its tolerances are so tight there there is literally 0 wiggle room for adjustment.

Aren't the steel inserts for 0801, 0600, the new 0454, etc the same part? They looked like the same screw-in insert to me. Maybe their supply is just low for now.

I'd post a pic if I could, mine is at %90-100. No rock or anything but it wore to where its at in 2 days. Luckily I'm local if it ever needs to be serviced.

I'm sure if you have an actual warranty issue, if you send the knife in ZT will take care of you. I've had lots of framelocks that I have used for years, that held up fine, I don't foresee needing a new lockbar insert ever.

Yeah, its defintely NOT a necessity. We knife guys are quirky people though. And stuff just eats at your brain if its not what WE THINK is perfect. I know that I probably would never have a problem with the knife but I just cant turn my brain off sometimes with stupid stuff. But I have a medical condition excusing me of being completely mental, lol.

I feel we understand the quirkiness of knife guys. :) They obsess a lot more that non and casual knifies. It always seem to be the same things they get quirky with. Let's see, there is the detent set up with flippers (some too strong, others too weak). There is what we are seeing here, the lock up position (it's all over the board on this one). Then there is the edge that always gets talked about (never sharp enough).

Personal knifey preferences make it very difficult for any manufacturer to produce to. It is interesting to see the way one goes about dealing with a perfectly functioning knife that isn't quite to a personal liking with regard to a detent, lockup, and edge sharpness.

KAI sales would probably go through the roof if it didn't address the needs (wants) of the quirky knife guys. :D

Next step: adjustable inserts?
