Looks like ZT got bit by Murphy's law once a gain. Appears that maxamet steel is impossible to machine at a RC # in the upper 60's and has warping issues when heat treated after the grinding was done.

Hopefully the frustration of trying to combine Devon Thomas Damascus to Vanex in the 0777 and the 0888Max problems won't stop their interest in exploring areas in knife making and design that are beyond the norm. My feeling is it won't.

So it sounds like the 0888Max is done but not shipped. The number of blades that passed QC is low and the remaining handles were fitted with M390.

As I suspected on the 0888 the numbers were less than the 250 planned. The dealers I talked to received 2 less than the number they ordered. With that information I figured around 200 made the cut. The production numbers for the 0888 are:

0888 212-216

0888Max 120

0888M390 130-150

Can't wait for the shipping notice!

Nice scoop!

I'm hoping my dealer will give me the 0888MAX for what I paid in full in advance!

If I'm going to get the 0888M390 instead then hopefully a partial refund.

Curious on the handle and blade color on the 0888M390. Will it be all black like the 0888MAX?

It also makes you wonder about the 0454 although many would love to see a 0454M390.

Regardless, kudos to ZT. Living on the cutting edge can sometimes evolve into the bleeding edge.

The prices are the same for all 3 variations. Wondering about the color of the M390 also.

To charge the same for the M390 blade for the 0888 doesn't make sense. Remember when ZT went from Damascus composite on the 0777 to the M390 blade the price dropped accordingly.

ZT is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with, and the brand isn't even 10 years old. I'm very glad to see that they (KAI) continue to work past all the challenges to deliver products to the end user. Thomas is a "Never Say Die" kind of guy and has to be one of the hardest working people in the industry. I'm proud to say that I own and use ZT products because they are built extremely well, stand behind their product 100%, American made, and are pushing design and innovation to the next level. These are great times to be a knife user/collector.

I second this. I wish I could own more of them.

well to be fair, the podcast dropped 3 days ago and there has already been a thread about the podcast.
