1-0 Gets It's First Taste Of Blood (somewhat graphic)

That's exactly what I thought. I'm glad it turned out to be what it is. :D

Hahahaha me too!! I know all too well how sharp this knife is. I learned a lot about the edges Bryan puts on knives with the first one, which inspired choils on the other ones, and while working out the details of the striker knife design. And even as much random stuff as I have cut with this knife it still shaves and I've yet to do more than clean the sap off of it.

what does squirrel taste like?

ya know...I really don't know anything else to compare it to. Not like chicken...To me personally it's not quite as good as rabbit unless I'm craving it, and a good bit better than muskrat and a few other critters I've tried. Maybe a little like ground hog...I'm not sure, it's been a long time since I ate ground hog.

Well...admittedly it wasn't exactly what I had planned, but the 1-0 did get it's first taste of blood today none the less. I had my sights on a rabbit in some high grass until a pesky little squirrel decided to sneak up on me and start barking...causing me to start and give away my position. The squirrel paid a high price for his meddling into my affairs, and my youngest got her first lesson in how meat comes to be. Now all I need to do is get a couple more this weekend and I'll have enough for a good mess of fried squirrel and gravy or some squirrel stew :)

Remind me never to bother you. The price is too high.:D

Nice pics and a good lesson.

I also would like to see you working with your new Schrade.

Nice! Try this skinning method some time....

Thanks, that looks interesting, and I may try that next time if I can remember.... old habits are hard to break.

I'm not always so easily upset or extreme...just some times :D

Thanks, glad you liked it!

Yeah, I had been working with it some...then sent it to Afghanistan by way of a friend shipping out.

Nice job, Mist. The pics look like the tutorials I've read on how to skin and butcher a squirrel.

Thanks man, that's just the way my dad taught me how to do it back when i was six or seven....that's been a while. Even though it had been years since I actually went hunting it was still like second nature.

Great thread! I bet that was an eye opener for your little one?!?!?! It's good think that they know where we get meat from and how to go about getting it. I liked the progressive photos and all of sudden he's missing his head and tail.

Thanks man. Actually she watches me butcher chickens and stuff all the time...I never pay for someone else to cut them up, I like the excuse to play with...um I mean use a knife. But that was the first time she saw something processed from fur and all. She dealt with it great, I was really proud of her.

Yeah...lol, it's a pretty quick process.
