Thanks for the call Bro. I'll be posting some pic's of the 1084 that you have with L6 mix in the damascus. Wait till you see the contrast.

Good to hear bro. Been wanting to see what everyone has been making with it. I have a few in progress and got side tracked trying to rearange the shop to so I have room for the new mill. Ray posted a real nice piece just last week. Hoping to see more.

Thanks Bro!!! Got the steel in yesterday. :D Hey are you looking for souce for L6??? I got to order some in the spring.;) :D

How many tons do you need! I'm going out to PA the end of next week. Hoping to find steel in small quantities at a place I visit with a buddy of mine. It's a crap shoot but we usually have limited success. I'll let you know what I find.

Any other strange and exotic steels being looked for? Let me know.

Any luck Aldo??????:)

No go George. Ended up going on a Sat. and the place wasn't open. I may have gotten a line on some 52100. Still negotiating......and I haven't found any leads on the SELF GRINDING steel you were looking for ,but, I will keep looking.:)

Aldo,
Hadn't made any damascus with it yet, but made a couple test knives from the 1 1/2'' stuff. Really tough and cuts great!! Bill

George,

With all the W steel around it seems 1095 is less available. For a mono-steel I would lean towards using W-1 or W-2(SUPER 1095 AND SUPER 1095 W/ VANADIAM.

If you're looking to put a hamon down your blade these are both good steel to use as well, although recently I saw a blade made with 1084 that had a beautiful hamon and .9 Manganese. It seems Ray landed this piece using Peanut Oil.

Aldo,
Here's a piece of that W2 I bought from you at Ashokan. Quenched in Brownell's tough quench. Pretty interesting hardening line...
