I'm gonna have to have one of these!

looks too high tech for me but still looks like an awesome gun! i like the ruger Mark III hunter

Yea, its called the 10/22 charger msrp of like $300. It comes with a 10" barrel, bipod and scope mounts. Needless to say that I'm looking into it. It looks lik a bad little gun, I cant waith till my local shop gets one of these. I was in the market for a 10/22 carbine already, now I can get one of these and if later down the road I want to put a long barrel on it and a stock I can. Its gonna be sweet.

Hmmmmm. Well, I mean no offense, but what is the point of it?

Too large to be a pistol, too small to be a rifle, fills either niche poorly and neither niche well.

Sorry, but I don't see the point of it.

Gotta say I love my Magnum Research Lone Eagle, in 7mm-08 Remington, best furthest shot so far is 300 yards on a 12"x14" boiler plate gong off the roof of a parked truck. can group inside of an 1" at 100 yards (1m.o.a.) at a bench rest anyway, here in indiana it's my Dear (i.e. Whitetail) Pistol :D

I thought the same thing at first. But a 10" pistol isn't as cumbersome as you might think. I have a Thompson/Center Contender pistol frame and scoped 10" barrels in 30/30, .22LR. It carries easily in a shoulder holster and shoots as accurately as a rifle (better than many!).

The new Ruger offers a similarly-sized .22 with semi-automatic action. Kind of neat, really....

Look at it as having rifle-like capabilities in a pistol-like size. It's a pleasure carrying my T/C 30/30 pistol vs. a rifle on long hunts and back-pack hunts. The Ruger offers the same convenience for small game hunters. And I bet it's a blast for plinking!

Stay sharp,
desmobob

Nice choice how is the recoil? I'm looking at an encore in a .308 15" barrel myself.

here's my standard model that i redone. i put a set of williams adjustable sights on the rear. made a blade for the front. eliminated all the excess overtravel in the trigger and polished the sear to make it smooth. i also made a compensator which makes a big improvement in accuracy.

That Ruger is also considered an assault weapon in our state. If it was five ounces lighter, it wouldn't spontaneously jump up and start murdering children:rolleyes:

Chief AJ used to set up at local gunshows. (He has done custom tuning work on so many Ruger products he has his own sub listing in the Blue Book of Gun Values) He once told me that from the factory, a 10" barreled Mark II pistol is generally more accurate than a 10/22 rifle. Considering the type of accuracy I've seen from factory-stock 10/22's, I have no reason to doubt him. My brother has a 10" barreled Mark II, and with the scope on it can outgroup my 10/22. On the other hand, he also has a 10/22 customized by Chief AJ, and that gun can put 10 shots into the same freakin' hole at 25 yds.

So anyway, I guess what I'm getting at... Is this chopped down 10/22 actually any more accurate than a Mark II of similar barrel length?

Does there need to be a point to it? ;)

I think it'd be pretty nice as a backpacking gun. Better for accurate shooting than a typical pistol, easier to pack than a rifle.

This review shows some groupings you could compare with your own: http://www.gunblast.com/Ruger-22Charger.htm

Thats what I saw in it. I can fit it into a pack but still use it like a rifle, others may not agree though.

I have an ruger mk1 6 7/8 semi bull barrel anniversary model, super accurate, if I could have only one gun, this is it.
Recent buy on an .223 Keltec plr 16 pistol, with 4 30rd mags gives all the power I need and very, Very accurate, yep, the powered up .22.
It is all in what one want's or think they need. I'm happy.

I think Magnum research had it 1st base upon the 10/22 design but it was called a piccuda,I think? $ was somewhere between $275-400....I thought I needed one but after holding one at the gun show .....I will stick with my Tec-22. the gun is not much real use, except for plinking cans IMO.

Well it's about the same as a HOT loaded .357 snubnose, think 2" barreled .44mag, Recoil is very Hard. I'd go with a lone eagle if you can find it as it's better balanced. with the grip moved forward under the barrell, it actually cuts 30-40% of the felt recoil, and encore wont.

good luck though, the high powered pistol is the most difficult shooting discipline to master, I still have trouble not shaking when i'm on the firing line... (the ONLY gun that i have ever experianced "Recoil Fear" from :(:o:thumbdn:

Thanks for the link, Rat. The groups he listed there-
Accuracy was very good at fifty yards, with groups measuring between seven-eighths of an inch and one and three-quarters of an inch.
It's been a long time since I've seen my brother shoot for serious groups, but from what I remember he was easily beating those numbers with his Mark II pistol. (i.e., his groups at 25 yards would have easily been less than half of those figures) The figures above sound about on par with what I'd expect from my own 10/22 rifle. I've never really been happy with that level of accuracy, but maybe I just got spoiled early on with some sweet shooters.

Also, for those talking about these things being more packable, that site also said:
The .22 Charger weighs in at 3 lbs., 9.6 ounces empty. Adding the bipod and a Leupold scope brought the total weight up to 5 lbs., 1.3 ounces ready to go.
So, is more than 3 1/2 pounds really that light for what's essentially a 10" barreled .22 pistol? Decked out as shown in the pictures above, its weight is easily creeping into rifle territory.

it would probably do a lot better with a target crown. I have seen several Ruger Mark III's with heavy barrels and target crowns- they are very accurate. Weight is probably due to the thick barrel and laminated wood stock. Not to mention the action is much larger than that on a pistol. I like the High Capacity mags option, since reloading the 10 shot mags on the Mark III gets old fast.

Well I just came back from the local gun store and guess what, they got two of them and sold both in a day. I guess I'll have to wait to get some first hand review some other day.
