10 Greatest Hunting Vehicles of all time

1-Feet.
2-ATV.
3-Boat.
4-Snowmachine.
5-10- Feet.... there is no animal in canada that i am aware of that hasn't in recent personal history been taken on foot, and packed out on foot.

nothing else on the list.

haha atleast that's the case where i live hunt, fish, and trap. i understand that your article is likely placing aim 'largely' at automobiles, (i drive a GMC sierra 'nevada edition') but where i live, hunting isn't done with the help of a truck, suv or car. unless you like to run dogs, or tow an atv/boat/snowmachine then you'd never need anything very special.
trucks cars and suv's are for transportation, they aren't hunting vehicles here.

if i was writing your article, that is what i would make sure was represented. i have my sierra because i liked it, not because it was the best hunting truck.
a prius could take me to the corn field i keep my deer plot on. and a sunfire could take me to where my atv is, so i can take that deep into the bush(50-200kms.) and get my bear and moose.

where i live, and how i work, any truck, car, suv, that can get you from your front door, to your other tools, is ideal.... if i bought a ford ranger, instead of the gmc sierra, i'd have been fine.

atv, feet, and boat, are the most important and significant hunting vehicles where i hunt. trucks are nice and comfy and "A to B" but they don't improve your hunting, so i can't qualify them as hunting vehicles.

if someone gave me a smart car i could still go moose hunting. no need for a crane although i am sure they are wonderful for 'certain types of shooters, and hunter'........

A horse or a mule. Not a better way to hunt in my opinion. Not many men can cover 20+ miles a day and do it day after day. Then when you kill something you load it and away you go.

My top 10, in no particular order.

Toyota Pu '85 and older
Chev pu '87 and older
f-150
Chev k-5 Blazer
Scout
Jeep Pu
Jeep CJ
Toyota FJ
Dodge Pu(older solid axle)
Nissan Pu

All 4x4. Can you use a 2wd? Sure, but why? No good reason that I can think of. You can add a rear locker on all of these for very little money and they will go pretty much anywhere practical. But just bone stock with a good set of tires they'll go anywhere most folks need to go.

The coolest hunting truck I've seen was years ago at a hunting camp. Old army surplus Dodge Power wagon flatbed. Manuel tranny, had front and rear lockers. Don't remember what engine. That thing would climb a tree. And then my uncles about '67 Land Rover. But those are pretty hard to find and parts are iffy.

The thing about the Blazer, CJ etc. is there is no place to put your kill. Unless inside is ok with you. I'm not real excited about putting a bloody deer full of deer ticks inside my vehicle with me. See a lot of Jeeps with a rack on the back for carrying things. That's ok but it sure limits your 4x4 capability.

Around here the most popular hunting trucks are Toyota Pu's, newer and older. Bow season is in here and I just went to the bank and saw 5 in the 2 mile drive to the bank. Larger tires, some handpainted. Saw one Tacoma 4dr with bedliner for paint. You couldn't hold a gun to any of these Toyota owners and make them drive anything else.

The later model, after '87 are terrible off-road. I should know I bought an '88. They have what GM calls a drop frame. It's used to make step in height lower. It does that. What it also does is hang up on every mud hole you come to. And you're not backing out.

I traded in an '84 Jeep Cherokee. I got it stuck 1 time in 4 years and that was my fault. In the first month I had the Chevy it was stuck 4 times. The front tires would go through whatever you were trying to cross and then the "drop frame" would hit. Stuck. Stupid design. Unless you just didn't care to take it offroad.

Great info and first hand experience. Thanks!

When I did my initial list it looked very, very similar to yours.

I considered the SUV/deer conundrum and realized that not everyone hunts deer, so a SUV works just fine for upland game and waterfowl hunters so no doubted there will be a few in the final list. I have a soft spot for those K-5 blazers. A 72 in hugger orange or mustard yellow with a white top is near the top of my grail vehicles.

Yep, that's a good'un. Too nice to take in the woods though.

I realize that here in Alabama we hunt differently than out west. Lot of timber company land that consists of miles of unimproved roads, overgrown. We use our trucks like ATV's. Only with heat and maybe even A/C:D

Here's mine. And a Gheenoe..taken at the launch at Hatchett Creek last Christmas.'85 Toyota, 3" skyjacker lift. Lockrite rear locker. 32" Dunlop Mud rovers. It'll get you there and back.

Oh yeah, if I owned that K5 it would never see a dirt road. I would take the top off and cruise in it!

I need two of them. A cruiser and a beater!

heres ours, a Nissan safari. but the quad bike is by far the biggest gamechanger since the horse.poor thing lives a hard life ;)

the jetboat and helicopter are 2 more excellent hunting vehicles popular in nz.

but when you get to your spot it pretty much always involves a heap of walking.

What? No Rokon?
I have never had/ridden one, but most of the people that do have them, swear by them.

I would throw in a 88 Suzuki samurai. Great little trucks and they go just about anywhere.

No list would be complete without the 73-79 F-series. Best looking truck Ford ever made. Millions of them still on the road and the junkyards are covered with them.
