I was thinking about how minimal I could pack to survive for a good while, What 10 items could you not do without to survive 1 year in the wild? Max 3 edged tools.
1-A good axe, GB sfa I guess
2-Fallkniven F1
3-SAK outrider
4-1 quart cooking pot
5-first aid kit
5-bic lighter/firesteel
6-fishing tackle
7-book of wild edibles
8-warm wool blanket
9-10'x10' tarp
10-war and peace, always wanted to read it.

For me my biggest concern would certainly be getting enough food, and considered a big bag of rice, but thought the book of wild edibles would be more rewarding and worthwhile.
I may get hungry, but I think I could do it with that. I would probably bring a bigger axe actually, but I just ordered that GB.

hatchet
multitool
firesteel
100m of paracord
100m of fishing line with 10 hooks
dynamo crank led flashlight
dynamo crank led lamp
2 large sized poncho
1 sleeping bag
1.5 litres drinking container of any kind

That will be my list. :)

A rifle or shotgun would be nice, which one, depends on were I am in the wild.

I think I might want a good light weight, low temp sleeping bag over a blanket, but then again, the blanket might last longer than the bag?

Again I would rather have a good tent than a tarp. I think it would be nice to have a tent that can have an open side, so that you could put a fire in front of it when it gets real cold, but hopefully by the time winter comes, I will have built a nice sturdy shelter/primitive cabin.

If I could only take ten things, I think I would get rid of one of my blades to make room for more stuff, probably just take an axe and a leatherman. Although I love to have me my Mora 510 or some other good puukko.

Not a bad list Liam, I'd be happy with it, or mine.

A Satellite phone and 9 Playboy Playmates..... :D

A house, a hot woman, pallet of Irish Whiskey.....

Seriously:

sleeping bag, axe, shotgun, belt knife, huge ferro rod, sharpener, poncho, metal pot, fishing kit and cordage.

I'm guessing this is more of a sustainment senario than a signal or get out type. Assuming that I'm not going to be mobile and these items are already carried in a ruck and I have appropriate clothing for the coldest the environment will get.

Fishing tackle
22 mag rifle with 1000 rounds of various ammo (I don't know if this is legal)
2 quart pot with lid
Poncho
Warm sleeping bag with wool liner
GB Axe
Good fixed blade (probably a camp tramp)
Firesteel and if I could a fire kit with bic and tinder ect
100 yards of 550 cord
50 yards of steel/brass snare wire
first aid kid with antibiotics

Would really like to work in a 50lb food pack of rice and beans and my choices of edged tools may change depending on my envionment. Jungle, swamp ect

FYI, Unless you happen to be on an uninhabited island you could walk-out.

Keeping that in mind:
- Bahco Folding Saw
- Fallkniven A1
- Fallkniven DC4
- Compass/Map
- Firesteel
- 100m of Para-cord
- Poncho/Tarp
- Sleeping Bag (temp. appropriate)
- Small/Medium Titanium Pot
- Satellite Phone (Duh!)

I might switch something out for a water container, depending on location. And I would change the list around also to better fit varying climates.

I notice that other than Fieldtestornothing, no one is bringing a pack, and even there he's assuming it's there but not part of the 10.

Also, how strict are we being about what constitutes an item? For instance, my MSS sleeping bag has 2 bags, a bivy sack and compression sack, but is issued as one unit, so is it one item or 3? Is a pup tent one item or two (or 18 if you count both 3-part poles and 10 stakes)? Is a knife that has a stone and hone in the sheath pouch one item or three, do we count the sheath as an item?

Say you can't walk out or contact anyone and you have to count every item in things like first aid kits or ammo I would have.
