10 items revisited

Great video and gear

My pack is a Camelbak Mule that I cram everything inside of :o

If I could only have ten items (pack included as 1) then I would take:

1. Camelbak Mule (full of water :p)
2. Strider SMF (because I prefer folders)
3. Victorinox Farmer in it's pouch (pouch has a sharpening rod) this would be my saw
4. Firesteel, kershaw version of the one you had (same thing but with a logo )
5. First Aid Kit
6. Tarp
7. My blue metal cup (not exactly sure what it's made of :o) for water and even cooking food
8. Fishing kit (I live near the coast and always camp near water :))
9. Rope/cordage
10. Fleece sleeping bag (temperatures RARELY go below 40 Farenheit, even during our "winter")

Wow, that took longer than I thought. I keep my pack full of a lot of "what if's" and only a few of the things in it would be considered a "must have."

If clothing and stuff on us doesn't count, my watch has a digital compass and I would dress for the weather (probably have my phone with me too). I like these kind of threads, really makes the gears grind

Edit: adding pic of my typical pack:

1) Kifaru Woobie
2) siltarp
3) fire kit
4) FAK
5) psk tin
6) Guyot/GSI
7) Zebralight headlamp
8) SAK Farmer
9) My new Laconico survival knife
10) cammenga compass

plus a bag to carry it all in... If that counts as an item, I would ditch the SAK.

I could do with these +food and clothing, but Id also like to have my .22/410, or my .45.

Thats about what I carry anyways.

Great thread John....

Shelter (tarp tent... situation dictates..)
Sleeping bag
Sleeping Pad
Water treatment (filter , aqua mira.....situation dictates)
Cookpot
Firestarter (lighter, ferro rod, whatever)
Headlamp
Map
Compass
Knife

This assumes Im wearing adaquate clothing for conditions and season (including a bandanna and rain gear if thats considered clothing, otherwise my list might change.);)

Is what were carrying all this in a given? Also different seasons and situation could change alot!

Looks like a good setup.

I go out on a hike every spring for overnight (or 2 if I have time) with nothing but a sleeping bag, knife, firesteel, compass, steel cup and 1 liter of water. Didn't even take food last year.

But for 10 items, you seem to have chosen wisely. I happen to think a compass is more important than a FAK, but that's just me.

What did they do? Think about the elements that you will face and let that guide you accordingly. What may be appropriate for one region may or may not be for another

knowledge is your best component

It's a Texas thing, we KNOW it's hot and Damn Hot 360 days out of the year so we need to pack a good bladder with lots of water :D

The other 5 days are scattered throughout november to march, and typically not all of those cold days are bunched together :(
