10 Years Here

10 years congratulations Randy :)
I have only been on the Porch since July of this year. The first knife I grabbed shortly thereafter was a cocobolo #43 user from JTB_5 JTB_5 . I didn't realize it would be at the time but this has become one of my favorite carry knives.

Congratulations. I lurked for years before joining the site. I recently sold the first traditional I acquired after signing up because I never used it, an Esky Zulu. The one after that was acquired on the Exchange and I still have and use it. 77 Yankee Jack.

Congratulations Randy on 10 years on the porch. I was searching for info on sodbusters which led me to Trevytrev's thread on BF. My first purchase after joining was this TC 15 barlow. I've never met a finer bunch of folks. I'm figuring on hanging around. :)DSC_0336.JPG

Congrats, Randy, looks like I'm about 11 months shy of 10 years myself. I ended up here as an avid hunter when trying to research knife steels, i.e. which were better for skinning knives, etc. Since up until that time all my knives had been traditionals, after finding BFC, I started hanging around this subforum. I already owned several Buck, Gerber, and Rough Rider knives, mostly lockbacks, but my first GEC was this Tidioute Big Jack, also in burnt grizzly cut bone. I still have it, too.

Like Rick T. (Railsplitter), I also keep a spreadsheet of my knives. It's obvious that GEC has had a profound effect on me . . . they make up over half of my current collection, and I've sold more of them than I currently own.

Congratulations on 10 years here!
I had a few traditional knives before joining BF, but I was focused mostly on modern knives at that time. Since then I have shifted to the point of 90% or so of my collection consisting of traditionals of both recent and vintage make. I don’t know where this one falls in my timetime exactly, but I remember specifically that it was the first time I bought a neglected knife at a flea market/antique store and cleaned it up! This 1990 North Carolina club knife started me down a long and expensive road:D

So the first knife I received after I started participating here on the traditional forum was this one, a generous gift from @EyeDog

But the first traditional knife I bought was the 2015 forum knife (I also purchased a Case Sodbuster Jr. about the same time):

I certainly bought other modern knives before I ever bought a traditional, but that is fitting. I only got into traditional knives because of the camaraderie here on the Porch. I found myself enjoying the threads enough that it drew me into the world of traditional knives. I do not regret the broadening of my tastes even a little bit. I like being here.

image.jpg Congratulations on your 10 years... I do believe I joined around 98 briefly, I was into modern knives heavy (automatics). There wasn’t very many posts or a bunch of activity. (Compared to today)
I went back to knife magazines unfortunately where information on production knives wasn’t the most accurate imo.
This site has been an accelerant for my collection and a wonderful source of information
Thanks to all

Congrats on 10 years here at BF!!!!!

This reminds me of how old I'm getting. In another couple years, I'll hit 20 years of Bladeforums. Things were a lot different back then when I joined. There was no Traditional Folders and Fix Blades at the time, so no comfy porch.:eek::eek: You had to post in General Knife Discussion, and promptly watch your thread get drowned out by all of the tactical banter. But we did have a good amount of active posters back then, like Will Fennell at Camillus and Joe Houser at Buck, so manufacturer representation was great. A.G. posted quite a bit back then too.

I joined in Jan of ‘09, right behind you. I am sure I came here chasing down Charlie’s HJ sfo knives, don’t recall what I bought first after joining, but I got this one off the exchange from??? Been quite awhile, now we are 10 years older!!!

Edit to add- went through my old posts I got this knife from @Parke1 still live it and carry it often!
Also looking back the first knife I got after joining here was a Queen teardrop linerlock, still enjoy it also!

Congratulations on the milestone! Since we’re in the traditional forum, I won’t post the first knife I bought after joining BladeForums, but the very first traditional I received was from a GAW hosted by @lambertiana .

That’s what really kicked off my appreciation for traditionals. I like to think that I wandered over here for the knives, but I stayed for the company!

Congrats on your 10 years! Time sure flies. I've always liked knives, but I joined in 2001 after watching Chris Kirk's knife show on cable and buying some knives off of eBay and at a local mall (Schatt & Morgans.) I briefly bought Case knives that were re-handled in wild acrylic colors by Frost, but then moved on to Henckels. When I joined there wasn't a traditional sub forum, but Blues (Elliott) and Gus talked Spark into adding one. At least I think it was them. I don't have any knives left from the early years, but I know I got this Bailey Bradshaw knife off of BF. Probably should have kept it since he no longer makes knives.
Edited to add that I'm not really proud to have my photo hosted on Photobucket!

Congrats on being a member for 10 years Randy . That seems so very long ago .
I am not sure which one that I bought after joining , but it had to be either this Schatt & Morgan

or one of these two Taylors Eye Witness

All 3 were purchased in the Fall of 2014 with the S & H first then the TEW 2 bladed with Ox Horn then the Rams Horn

Nice thread.

Congrats to the new knife owners and thanks to Glocktenman.

My first GEC was a 23 yellow rose. It moved to a better place, and a better owner (a Texan, in Texas....with a whole family of other yellow roses.....though I did get a yellow Rose Stockman and an exchange student up here in WA)

Post #9 by Peregrin is the winner of the new slipjoint. I'll PM you.
Wow! That's awesome, Randy! As I wrote in a PM to you, I didn't realize this was going to be a GAW but I'm tickled to have won!
I'll make sure to pass on the generosity and good will with a GAW of my own soon.
Thank you! Thanks to all for the great posts!
