I'm going to be that guy... I have my wifes boss asking me for suggestions on a $100-200 fixed blade. I'm trying to get him the best bang for his buck. He going to lean toward a more traditional fixed blade for carrying on his UTV around his property for general tasks.

I found a Bark River Gunny, 3.775" blade in A2, micarta for about $150... I thought this might work well.

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm stressing out trying not to lead him the wrong way.

Can't get much more traditional than a Nessmuk. LT Wright makes a mid sized version that they call the Camp MUK that I'm quite fond of. It's a great all around blade.

Benchmade saddle mountain Skinner/hunter

Arno Bernard 20th anniversary bush baby w/ wart hog ivory handle.

Might as well shamelessly self promote.

Going more traditional, maybe an LT Wright genesis. The bark rivers seem great too. I don't own either, just basing my opinion on the look and specs and reputation.

$100-200 tends to be the sweet spot for knives (maybe up to 250). The gunny is a great general utility belt knife. Bark River has a plethora of knife scale options, so I'd really take a look at some of their wood, antler, bone offerings also. I'm biased but they give knives much more character than micarta

ESEE, LT Wright, and Battle Horse makes some great options also

I think Bark River is a good choice. Besides being very functional, they are nice enough to be proud of.

There are a lot of knives that would work well. For a whole lot less money you could get a Becker or ESEE that would probably have all the functionality that he needs. For closer to the upper end of that price range you could go with a Swamp Rat or Scrapyard that would also work very well.

I think the BR Gunny is a good choice. Any of Bark River's more traditional fixed blades would be good choices.

I'd make several recommendations: Less expensive and the whole budget options..... Look at Kabar Becker BK-15, BK-16, BK-17 as a good all a rounder or ESEE 3 or 4 for something in the $75-!25 range. Then one of the Bark River knives in the $150-$250 range. I find the Becker factory handles to be very functional and comfortable for using.

My general carry knife in the woods is Blackjack 125 or 124 (5" or 4.1" blades) which is very traditional. Check them out at DLT Trading.

For a general purpose, all around fixed blade, I would suggest a Helle  or a Fallkniven, maybe a Mora..

Get a hand made knife with that budget. Several reasons to do so and no reason not to.
