100% Spyderco

I'm 50% Spyderco right now. That proportion will grow, as there's nothing else than Spyderco's that catch my eye these days.

I'm not 100% Spyderco, but they're definitely well represented. My wife also carries a Delica 3 in her purse.

I am not 100% Spyderco either. I have a few Chris Reeves Knives, and 2 RSK Mini-Grips, I have a couple o customs, and my fixed blades are Ranger Knives and Bark River. BUT, the majority of MY knives, ARE Spyderco!!!

I like Spyderco too, but there are simply too many other good knives out there to pass up.

Spyderco does a huge amount of custom collaborations, and chances are, if you've got a couple or more Spydercos, at least one of them is a custom collaboration. So even though the knife is made by Spyderco (yes, technically "100% Spyderco"), the design is possibly a mixture of Spyderco's design team and/or a custom knifemaker/designer. Maybe even a production company collaboration (think SpyKer & "waved" Endura/Delica). Afterall, Spyderco kinda started the trend (with Bob T.).

So, I guess that makes me like 50% Spyderco (in house designs), 10% Tim Wegner (Ocelot & Wegner Jr.), 10% Ed Schempp (Persian & mini-Persian), 10% Eric Glesser (Dodo, & Scorpius), 10% Sal Glesser (Military & Stretch), 5% Michael Janich (Yojimbo), 5% Wayne Goddard (FRN Goddard). ;)

All kidding aside, I don't think even the great Sal Glesser (Mr. Spyderco) is 100% Spyderco only. I know he's got a custom KFF (Kasper/Crawford) that is all serrated, and scores of other (spyder-edge) customs that he likes to collect. I strongly believe that one of his (Sal's) sayings, "all good, just different", applies in this thread.

Best wishes,
3G

I had been looking at these for some time, but just couldn't get myself to buy a "made in China" knife. Well, my curiosity hightened when I got a 2006 Spyderco catalogue in the mail with a Byrd line insert. So this past weekend I took the plunge and added a black Crow to my collection. It's really not bad, with a pretty good fit and finish and a decent edge. In fact, i may be tempted to add another model to the line-up in the not too distant future.

i am am pretty new to the whole knife thing. about 2 months ago i went to a fleamarket in englishtown nj and asked the guy selling knives " if those Case brand knives are any good" the guy looked at me and said "if you have to ask you do not know about knives". needless to say i felt both angry and belittled which promted me to do some online research and even invested in some knivfe books. i found out alot about the different types of steel and looked up a bunch of knives according to the steel quality, and yes Spyderco does have the best deals for the quality blade they use. i since then have purchased a Benchmade griptilian 550s and a pika also a buck alpha with ats-34 steel a boker folder I Tactical and am waiting for my spyderco native s30v steel to come. i also found a used coldsteel twistmaster carbon v steel that is pretty cool. i will let you guys know what i think about my spyderco. CYA:)

my only gripe with spyderco is that they stick to the old school locking mechanism, i prefer the axis lock on my griptilian.

Spyderco offer more different types of locks than any company I know of, compression, liner, lockback, ball bearing, slipjoint, phantom lock, did I miss one or two? Sure, they put the lock back on many models, but that's because they have perfected it, and it's tried, true, and super strong and reliable. I took my newly upgraded Ocelot apart today to clean out some Micarta grit, and I was utterly impressed by the lock up. It was like a vault, and I'd bet my fingers on it any day.

Isn't that funny. It was the Axis lock that was the main reason I sold my Grip. Different strokes. :)

just got my spyderco today, i waited for that UPS truck for hours and it seemed like forever. i am impressed with its sharpness, i shaved off like 8 inches of hair on one stroke off my thigh, SICK! I will say that it's between my griptilian and native. but it isn't fair to compare, i think the grip is a bit more knife, but i still maintain that for the money spyderco is the best ounce for ounce.

For factory folders, it's Spyderco only for me!!! I hate thumbstuds:thumbdn: and tell me where you can find a better bang for your buck than a Native1 FRN with S30V steel for $39 at Walmart or a VG-10 Endura FRN for about $43, there is no better maker for solid lock up, last a lifetime, utility folders than Spyderco, period. Not to mean that Spyderco doesn't make other knives, some higher end (titanium ATR, Spyker, Lil Temp anyone) pieces, and some on steroids heavy duty folders (Military, Para, Manix) as well, add a couple "gentleman" type folders (Kopa, Kiwi, etc.). Ya get the best production knives IMHO, and without damned thumbstuds.
Cheers,
Rob

Native-III, Delica, Endura, Calypso. Can't really see a need for anything else at this time. I bet I'm one of the quickest "hooked-on Spydie" customers ever. :D

louis, i just bought my first sypdie and i am hooked, less than 2 hours later. and i sold 20+ dvds to buy this knife... i beat you.:)

To be completely honest, I *don't* buy other brands of knives often, as I am very accustomed to Spyderco features and am uncomfortable with a lot of other knives.

See, that's the thing. Just before I got my first Spyderco (a Delica, in like 1993 or so), the only knives I had were generally slipjoint-types with nail nicks...

Once I got turned on to the Spyder Hole, and got used to it, I started to love it.

Then I discovered that other brands used a thumb stud, which I detest, and so like you say, I am uncomfortable with a lot of other knives -- specifically the thumb-stud varieties. There are MANY knives I would absolutely love, but can't get myself to like them or buy them because they use studs instead of the hole...

I'm not 100% Spyderco, but generally I EDC two knives in pockets plus a neck knife, and at least one of the two is a Spyderco.

I hope you screened them to make sure that none of them have characters using Spyderco knives... :p

i recently said that spyderco makes the best knife ounce 4 ounce for your money, i was spacifically thinking about my native when i made that comment; today i recieved my Boker Plus foder I tacticle knife, (which i payed 25 bucks for) that gives my native some competition on the "ounce for ounce" ranking. i do not belive in 1 brand only, to many good deals out there.:)
