100% Spyderco

I've carried a Spydie with me for the past 11 years, but I collect knives from all makers. I consider Spyderco and Benchmade to be on equal footing in terms of quality. Spydies generally come sharper while I can't help but feel the mechanics of BM's may have a slight edge.

i agree with the previous post. whenit comes to the actual blade spydie has the edge benchmade has an edge on the rest, although my BM Pika leaves alot to be desired.

I feel the same way you do about the near equivalence of Spyderco and Benchmade; but what I feel differently about is the sharpness issue. I don't generally judge a company by the sharpness of its knives -- and usually both of these companies' knives are adequately sharp NIB -- because I almost invariably end up putting my own re-edge on them prior to carrying them anyway. So the edge they come with, as long as it's not marred and horribly done, is not very relevant for me. I care about the design, construction, workmanship and finish of the knives far more than their factory edge.

Wrong forum to ask about this model.

No, you didn't purchase a Spyderco "Police" knife, and this thread is about "100% Spyderco.":D

Best wishes,

i understand it's not a spyderco but i am sure that some of you know about knives other than spyderco, atleast i hope so. i asked my question on the buck forum, but they are slow to respond. be kind to your fellow knife lover:)

Hi Nelly,

You might have better luck asking that question (about the Buck) on the general forum. There are probably quite a few people there that have information about the Buck piece.

Try to keep in mind that the world of knives can be very deep and the more you learn, the more you find you don't know.

Steels, grinds, heat treats, edge geometry, damascus, wootz, mosaic, nitrogen steels, powdered metals, sharpness, sharpening methods, opening methods, etc. and that's just on the blade. Add to that, handles, materials, designs, locks, history, world locations, etc.

Quite a bit of information on a tool that has been around almost as long as humans.
