1000 posts snuck up on me!

(Dare I post an unedged piece of gear?) My favorite thing is this old backpack. Its been on my back in all points of the compass: all over Alaska including dayhikes in Denali, throughout the Canadian Rockies, Montana, Minnesota's northwoods and Superior shore, on The Tube in London, peak-bagging in Scotlands western highlands, and up and down the east and west coasts of the U.S. Don't know what I'd do if I ever lost it. Plus, it has that old-skool cool that flies in the face of nylon and Gortex. If I ever have a son or daughter, I want to pass it down to them so they can add their own patches. If I don't, I hope to be cremated and buried in it....::D

This knife is really special to me because it is the first one I made!

Congrats on hitting 1000 and thanks for the chance

this knife was embellished for me by pickle. it means a lot to me as I've grown to really appreciate bob and how brave a person he is, for reasons I won't share here.

I guess I'd have to show another knife by Pickle. This was a ragged Schrade Walden hunter that he made into a work of art.

Great giveaway, thanks for the chance!

That folder is a bute, ilbruche. Great work.

My most 'special' piece of field equipment is a knife, like most here. We really had a hell of a love/hate relationship for long time. I was disappointed with it out of the box (usually the kiss of death), but had some re-grinding done and now it cuts like a dream. Even after that there was some drama, but we're on great terms now!

...that you think is uniquely special, and tell us why.

Once my father retired we decided it was time to take to the water. This was our last real (fun) project before he passed away a couple years ago. We searched high and low for the perfect boat for the two of us. Neither one of us could afford to go into debt so we found this one. Rounded up a trailer later. We used it with an electric trolling motor 'til we could come up with a suitable gas outboard. By then, his health didn't let him out on the water and my new hours at work didn't alow me much time either.

The thought of selling it crosses my mind every once in a while as I only get to use it a couple times a year but I know the Ol' man would order up a bolt of lightning for me if I did :p.

My Rat Cutlery Izula prototype touched up by Ban. The prototypes are very rare and I was one of the lucky few to win one. I met a local (Ban) here on BF and decided to meet up, and he offered to touch up my Izula and did an awesome job. Since then we've met up twice with others at his shop to hang out and chop. I've been using the knife everyday and the 1095 steel is staining/patina very nicely. I don't have an updated pictures, but here it is after I got it back from Ban.

Thanks for the opportunity!

This is very generous of you. I hope to have something as interesting to give away myself when such a time comes.

My grandfather passed away quite unexpectedly when I was young, but I forged many wonderful memories with him, particularly when he would take me fishing. Looking back now I realize that he didn't know the first thing about fishing, nor was he what one could call and 'outdoorsy' type of person by any stretch of the imagination, but he went out of his way to do these activities with me b/c that was what I wanted to do. It makes me appreciate it all the more now as an adult myself. I received his pocket knife after he passed, and although I don't really put it to much use, the memories it brings back make it one of my most treasured pieces of gear.

Man o man, these are really great stories, good gear. I'm glad I don't have to judge this on merits :D

This oldtimer is special to me because we just found it in my Grandmothers things. My Grandad died in 1968 and this knife is a model 58OT which could only be ordered with 2.00 and coupons from a Prince Albert tobacco tin. Grandad was a PA man all his life.

Thanks Chickenplucker

I too am sitting this out since I have 2 of Koyote's knives already. I like the pics and stories, cool to see and read how people connect with things, making memories.

Congrats on the 1000th! And also to the lucky winner of the knife!

My grandfather got this knife as a gift from Pennbank in August 1984 since he used to work for QuakerState. He then gave it to me when I was a child and it's very special to me.

Its nothing fancy, just a plain old SAK. My dad gave it to me on my 18th birthday before I left for Burning Man. I was going to do some Jack Kerouac-esque vagabonding. But after Burning Man I had no energy to try and backpack around. So I ended up living in Missouri for a few months with friends and then came back to Texas. But this knife has been in my pocket off and on for four years. Just recently I got a Fieldmaster for my EDC, but this sak will always be special to me. Its now in my Fiances purse until I can replace it and hide the knife away for the scary day when there is a Darby jr lol.
