Hey Gents,

With my 1000th post looming, I decided to give a little something back to the community. I upgraded my membership, and I'm going to give away a Buck Alpha, pictured below (it also comes with a very sturdy ballistic nylon belt pouch, not shown).

IMG_2904.jpg

This is a great folder - a bit bulky for EDC carry around town, but a reliable and durable knife for the trail. It served me well for years, right up until I was bitten by the fixed blade bug. Seems a shame to let it sit in my cabinet when someone else could be enjoying it!

Contest Rules:

  • Open to North Americans - apologies to forumites on other continents. Shipping is a killer!
  • Must be a W&SS regular.
  • Post a picture of your favourite 'trio' of W&SS tools (small knife, medium knife, chopper - or other combinations), and provide a brief description.
  • Contest will run until Saturday, May 16. I'll announce the winner at that point. Winner will be selected at random.

Thanks to everyone for making W&SS such a great place to hang my virtual hat. You guys are great!

All the best,

- Mike

As much as I dream about a GF Bruk hatchet, a Boker folding hunter with a saw blade and a fixed blade and sheath from Christof and Sierra, we have a son in college and it is time to focus on his education, not my needs/wants. However, that does not stop me from woods walking. My "low rent Nesmuk trio" consists of a SAK that our son got me for Christmas a few years back, a "Wally World Special" Ozark Trails fixed blade knife and a Collins camp ax that I picked up at the local True Value and then modded by taking off the labels, sanding and wood burning the handle and forcing a patina using left over metal glazes from one of my wife's sculpting projects.

I can get the edges sharp with a Spydie sharpmaker that I received as a business gift. They don't hold their edges too long, so I am getting a lot of practice with sharpening skills. Until I can upgrade, I will continue dreaming and using my current trio to the best of my abilities.

I'm staying out of this one, but I wanted to chime in a say that if the Buck is anything like its smaller cousin, the Alpha Dorado, it's a keeper! Very sturdy in hand.

Nice trios and great pics, guys!

MBTull, I love the term "low rent Nessmuk Trio". Sometimes great gear comes cheap.

pn, that's a very nice looking Wetterlings. They make beautiful axes.

Keep 'em coming fellas.

All the best,

- Mike

I'll try to get a pic of all 3 together later this weekend. Thanks for the opportunity.

Here's my 1000th post!

Woot. Thought it would be appropriate to post it in this thread.

For those following the epic saga of my trio, I'm happy to say that I have added a new mid-sized all-around fixed blade to replace my trusty Delta 5. It's a custom, from one of our regular W&SS knifemakers, and I'm all kinds of stoked about it!

I also managed to remove the chip from the blade of my Delta 5, so that knife is back to being good as new.

Here's a shot of my 'old' trio.

Thanks to those who have posted so far. I'm looking forward to seeing new trios!

All the best,

Very generous of you, Mentor, and congrats on the 1K posts.

BF, this is a Buck Alpha, mine is a Buck Alpha Dorado - they're different knives. I have no experience with the Buck Alpha.

Mike, I just realized the above picture could be construed as my favourite trio. It is not meant as an entry. I don't do giveaways, so I don't enter them.

Great stuff, guys!

Big Mike, I really like that little Barkie drop point. Looks like a check of an EDC knife.

Doc, the pivot and liner on that Dorado look very similar to those on its big cousin. I'll bet it locks up nice and tight.

veubent, that's a trio of classics. Nice stuff!

Todd A, that mini nessie is adorable.

All the best,

- Mike
