1000th soddie thread?

Glad you started this thread, Tar, so that you can now be hoist by your own petard.

Enjoy, while I sit back and get some popcorn. (Buckle up now!)

Ohhh Catfish..... I laughed out loud at that post. Not the hat that made me laugh..... just the timing:thumbup:

Ohhhhhh you're killing me. I have a month or so before I get my paws on my scandi Slither, and Fire Ant. I had a Refuge... but I sold it to VCM...or VMC... Ohhh whatever, Vinny has it now.

I loved the Refuge, I just wanted a scandi, and a good neck knife. All Charlie's, and Genes work is top notch IMO. Gene making a soddie makes me wonder (as mentioned) if Charlie will make a folder. I sure hope he does. Nothing better than a 6-10 month wait time:eek: ;) :)

Thanks for the pics Cat.... great knife:thumbup:

I sort of figured Cat would have a nice big brim and some seacow show up soon. Notice any similarities?

I am off to home, got to put that SodBuster to work on something tonight.

I have this stick still in progress. Might as well see how the SodBuster works in some detailing and tapering.

Just to continue on with the SodBuster theme....

The most perfect sandwich on earth can only be cleaved with perfect steel.

vsandwichsodbuster3941bm9.jpg

Vietnamese Sandwich….Marinated grilled pork, cucumber, daikon radish, marinated carrots, cilantro, jalapeño peppers with mayo and a soy-based sauce on a crusty French roll, all for $3.

Just got that little Queen sodbuster in stag this afternoon from Thomason. Sweet little knife. Though thicker than the Case yellow handled version due to the stag, it weighs only 1/8 oz. more.

Came with a nice sharp D2 blade that needs just a touch of deburring mid blade. The scales are very attractive. In fact, the pile side (the side opposite the shield for those who may not know) scales are even nicer than the mark side (shield side).

Couldn't be happier with this little guy.

Now, about that Ingram... (oh Geeee-eeeene!!!...)

Oh great! Now not only do I have knife envy, but I'm hungry too! Thanks a lot guys, you sure know how to make my waistline bigger and my wallet smaller! ;) :D

Blues....why "pile" side? I get "mark" side but where does pile come from?
Can those terms be used when there is no scale mark? For instance a fixed blade that is blade marked on the left would its left scale be the pile scale?

That stag really has great character on that Soddy.

Those sandwiches are meant to satisy....just superb taste and the crusty French roll is like sandpaper on the roof of my mouth. Cutting in half at an angle minimizes some of the mouth damage:D And cutting one in half with a damn nice Ingram adds a whole new dimension of flavor:thumbup:

Thanks, Schwert.

From Levine's Guide (IV):

Mark Side: The front or finished side of a pocketknife's master blade. If one opens a knife's main blade and holds the knife with that blade's edge downward and its point facing left, then one will be looking at the mark side of the blade. On this side are usually found both the maker's mark and the nail mark.(q.v.) The opposite side is the PILE SIDE.

Pile Side: The opposite of the mark side. (q.v.)

(I always have this notion that pile side has something to do with hair and skin as in pelts but I don't know why.)

I like mark and pile better than the other terms, obverse and reverse. They are more folksy.
Trivia - D'Holder puts his name on the pile or reverse side because he is left handed (at least I heard that was the reason)

So only on a folding knife though.

Now for more odd questions....

On a muskrat which blade is the main?

Nah, you can use the same descriptions on a fixed blade. The side with the maker's name and tang stamp is the mark side.

There are muskrats and muskrats. (Some are modified to have a different blade than two thin (California) clips.)
