1000th soddie thread?

Thanks tarmix. I started writing articles more for myself than anything and am always glad to hear that someone found something of interest in them. It is not too hard to take classics like Nessmuk and weave a good story around it with some fine knives. I have a feeling we are so much more fortunate now then those in Nessmuk's time. Not only can we easily fine fine knifemakers on the internet through forums, websites or articles, but we can much more easily afford their work.

If one translates Nessmuk's story of spending days to get his knife made into our costs today, it seems this would make many custom knives a real bargain.

And now for the good stuff.....

I got my Ingram Sodbuster just a few hours ago......Here are some images.

Turns out that this one is might familiar too….this is the prototype I had for an early inspection….this time returned sharp and MINE.

I do find myself a pretty damn fortunate fellow having “met” Gene Ingram through the various electronic media.

Time for a cup of coffee and some SodBuster appreciation....

Congrats, Schwert. Looks like that mojo worked big time. Fine knife. Well deserved I might add.

Congrats on your new Ingram "soddie". No need to thank me for the praise... it was a great article. I wonder if Charlie (Charles May) might come up with a few folders as well. I'm a huge Charles May fan (owned a Refuge, and have a Slither Scandi, and Fire Ant coming). BTW I ordered the fire ant do to a article on O.M.

Thanks for sharing the photos. Soddies have become a passion on mine. The new Queen Blues owns might be mine if I was only 15 minutes faster:o ;) :D

Well, Tarmix, I knew I liked you. Nessmuk axes, sodbusters and May knives. Tells me all I need to know. Good taste, friend.

:o :o :o Appreciated...... being on the west coast the Blade show in Portland is easier for me to make, but the Atlanta show is on my list. One day I will make it and maybe we can pull all are soddies out over a cold beer and have a good talk.

tarmix...where are you in WA?

I look forward to your article on the May. I have yet to purchase one from him but I have seen some awfully nice ones from his hands.

I am still just sitting here playing with this SodBuster. It is a near perfect working knife. The whole SodBuster format just seems to work in my hand. Until Gene sent the prototype to me, a SodBuster was not a pattern that I have ever owned or even looked at too much. Once I had it in hand though, I could very easily see why it would have been choosen as a working knife. A stout tool for just about anything that comes up during the day. All my slips to this point are either stockman or trappers with an occasional SAK tossed in. The only other custom slip I had ever lusted after was a Huffman splitback whittler, but that one never materialized as he stopped making knives before it was ready.

For the past several years fixed blades (many from Gene) have been my acquistions, now I am wondering a bit more about another custom slip.....if I keep looking at some of the ones Blues is adding to his pile I may need a heart transplant.

tarmix...where are you in WA?

250 miles dead east of you.... Spokane. Until I started hanging out here..... fixed blades were my passion. As mentioned.... my Grandad carried a slip joint at all times. He bought me my first Buck 110 after using one (against my Mom's wishes I might add) and there ya go. Been addicted to steel ever since. Jacknife (a valued guy here in traditional) turned me on to the benefits of a simple CV slip joint..... or remedied me rather.

Nothing like them. Simple, functional, and effortless. Good combo IMO:thumbup: :D

mannnn...that was fast, Schwert...you must have gotten on the list early...:D

I've used and lost (planted but never came up) several Sodbusters...most of them were Case CVs...they really are working tools...Ingram's version is much more refined and begs to be used....I have no intention of letting mine suffer in the depths of my sock drawer...

Blues and Bastid might have a secret list.... but if they tell us about it..... well you know;)

You obviously know your way around good steel. Welcome:thumbup: Stay a while.... we (meaning me) need the advise from seasoned folks:D

Don't get me or particularily CatFish started on hats.;)

A fine hat, a decent coat, a wool vest, and a fine knife....what else could a man ask for?

Well I am sure there are some things:D

However, that is an Akubra Bushman. I picked it up just a few weeks ago at David Morgan's.

A good Pale Ale comes to mind. Lets see who makes a good pale ale....... I'm just sure there is one made in Seattle;)

I may as well have been baptized in Miller Highlife..... so that fact that I have moved up to Hales, and Redhook shows promise don't you think;) :D

Great picture BTW:thumbup:

You guys start hangin' round Schwert and Cat all's I can say is prepare to be "enabled". Don't say I didn't warn ya. Let the games begin...

Bridgeport in Portland has my favorite IPA. Yeah I would add an IPA to the list.

Loads of local places around here. Manny's is an excellent keg only brewer just down the road from me. Redhook has a nice pub but I do not favor their beers (attached to a monster brewery). Hale's is a good choice too. So many to choose from....too little time.

BTW...check out that red handled knife. A bargain with built in history...
