Normally I don't make much of youtube arguments, but this one really blew my mind. This guy thinks 1095 is the shittiest crappiest steel, EVEN with good heat treat.

He even says 440A is tougher:p

What gets me with people like this is that they think they know everything, but really know nothing. If he didnt consider heat treatment I would have made nothing of it, just another kool-aid drinking "1095 is shit, blah, blah, blah". But the fact he thinks a good heat treated 1095 cant stand up to stainless steels really displays his ignorance.

The greatest thing about the Internet is, anyone can publish something. The worst thing about the Internet is, anyone can publish something. Paraphrasing Ayoob, for the record.

My absolute best custom kitchen knife is made from thinly ground 1095. Holds an edge very well and is super easy to touch up. For hard kitchen use it is the ideal steel. Of course it will develop a patina but it continues to look better and better with use.

Look who made the video, what else woul you expect? When you purposely destroy every single tool you touch and say that it's junk, your credibility becomes questionable in a hurry. I'll say it again because it bears repeating, a knife is supposed to cut, not hammer, pry, make you coffee, rotate your tires, or drive your kids to school.

Ok, this is really taking it to far. Seriously, if a knife can't manage to make me a decent cup of coffee and get the kids to school then what good is it really. All of you knife snobs out there keep limiting a knife's usefulness to the paltry ability to cut things. I ask you now, for the record, when in human history has cutting ever been the primary purpose of a knife? Debate over. You lose! :D

Gee, i thought the best thing about the Internet was that Al Gore invented it.... I gotta get out more.

Well I watched it with the sound off ( the best way to watch these vids IMO) and all I can say is I want that knife!

After a minute and a half of watching him repeatedly stab some thin sheet metal, I realized I have much better things to do. Like watching the plants on the mantle grow.

1095 is one of the best all around steels there is; the guy is an idiot and his videos prove nothing.

What's funny is that I just did the same thing as several of you- I watched the video and then went huh(?).
The op is talking about the rediculous arguments in the comment section.

Btw that was the first and last knifetest video for me. That was brutal to sit through. I feel dumber, and I can't get the "tink, tink, tink, tink..." sound out of my head.

Putting aside the argument about steels (I know nothing except what works), Noss's videos always make me bust a chuckle. They feature a guy dressed up like an executioner in a horrendous looking basement. It puts the lotion on its skin. It does this whenever it is told. For some reason I find myself identifying with the knife. When he turns around and you see the 2X4 in a vice, its really creepy. Like 'oh god what is he going to do to that poor knife?' LOL.

1095 has been used for blades for at least 75 years !!There must be something good about it !!

Yeah. Its amazing what all these theorycrafters have to say on the subject. Of course, my experience with the steel is invalid because their theorycraft is so L337!
