110 BG-42 NS Bolsters w/ Brass Pins

So, NS bolsters are solid, not plated? Only the pin tips are plated? I've been contemplating a custom shop order with NS bolsters, but I'm wary of the flaking potential of plating. And is this why I've heard that 110 auto conversions are best with NS bolsters, as they stand up better than brass to those wicked openings?

By the way, I hope Buckaholic keeps posting frequently, as long as his stepmother appears in his avatar.

Or that Harley chick.

...Actually TIZWIN...neither the bolsters nor the pins or rivets are plated whether they are NS or brass...They are solid throughout...There is nothing there that could possibly "flake"...

Here is a pic of the whole knife.
Note that the previous owner (whatabeaut) states that it started life as a 110 25th Anniv (which I also show here).
The foward bolster pivot is the only place on the re-bladed BG-42 that shows brass.

D and B...
I got it BIN and no, it wasn't described as a mixed-breed. I am very ok with it and the seller shipped it fast.
I didn't recall any ill-will from previous posts where he was racing against others to buy so I thought he'd be alright. And, in this case, has turned out so.
The 25th Anniv in the pic is definitely silver pinned BM10. I got sheety lighting.

Now, I am having second thoughts of using it, the "Golden Eye" as EDC. WWDD? WWTD? WWMD? WWLD? WWJD (that's "Jim", not "Jesus")?
I don't know why I worry about messing them up cosmetically since I don't plan on selling any of them. I don't know why I put 'em back in their boxes just to look at them from time to time. Most have never cut a thing. I'm beginning to think I'm just f'n wierd.

Nice 110 Goose.I don't think that you are wierd.
You are just a Buckaholic.
Ride safe.

Did Al disclose this information; or were you "lucky" enough to find out this fact after the knife arrived? Also, did you purchase the knife from him privately, or from eBay?

He's been selling a lot (well, at least four) of these BG-42 110's on eBay lately...that brass pin did *not* show up on the pic in the auction... :grumpy:

Here's two quotes from the auction:

THIS WAS A 25TH ANNIVERSARY MODEL THAT I HAD REWORKED WITH A BLADE UPGRADE AT THE BUCK FACTORY.

HAS DARK WOOD HANDLES WITH NICKLE SILVER BOLSTERS & PINS & THE BLADE HAS NEVER BEEN USED OR SHARPENED.

My guess is that he uses the same pics for each auction...I don't know the man personally, but that seems a borderline shady deal to me...maybe just an honest mistake, or maybe brass for his blade upgrade pin was all he had...if he did it himself...

...Or maybe it was a blooper from Buck...

It's easy to replace, Goose...with NS rod, I mean... ;)

Wow Nice bucks! Mahalo
KTK...
He mea iki

Trax...
I don't mind it at all. Don't know how it will be long term...metal reaction or whatever. Any thoughts?
In the interim, I'm kine thinking like Alberta Ed said above...

so goose i guess now your after a third lol
i think i would leave it as is but it would have been nice to know ahead of time eh ? but still a nice knife cool

Well, Goose, you didn't ask WWPD:rolleyes:, I'm going to tell you anyway...use that sucker...it's BG-42 and it's been rebladed and probably used before that. Enjoy it, carry it and use it:D. Preston

I learn something new everyday! Thank you very much Darryl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

I wrote the seller. Told him I am very happy with the knife but wondering why the pivot is brass. Here is his reply: "Hi, So happy you like it. The original knife had a broken blade, so off to the buck company it went. Payed for the blade upgrade & that is the way it came back. Thanks & enjoy,
Al...".
And I must say that I do like it. It seems like I don't feel as bad using it as I do my 110AG. Doan know why Lucy. Jes do.
Taking Dr. P's advice...

ok ok i know al and he is ok with me...we have bought and sold and bid agenst each other longer then i have been here at blade forums..
i consiter him a old buckacholic friend as i do all you guys!
i am sure if you cotact him he will accept it back and if he sold several it could be that he did not notice it or more likely thought nothing of it...
me i kinda like the golden eye knife concept and it came from buck that way! ...90 % of all BG'ed knives are reblades any way! i personaly can not see that there is any diffreance at all as i under stand that many times the shop at buck will pull a finished knife out of the line and put a ordered balde in it t speed dilvery to the customer.. so even if it is ordered that way it is still a good darn chance that it is a rebladed knife...

i will buy it from you if you are realy worred
what did you pay for it including shiping?

as they are much of the same componets in both metals except for the nickel i cant see any galvonic reaction happening from the addation of the nickel at all! after all brass some times is plated with it...and he did not put the brass in it...
and like i said if you dont want it i do!!
so i can sing 70 diasco songs with Rhino's wexclusitivity Bee Gees club!
btw : any one heard of him lately ? is he ok i mean or jest working hard a lot
i dont recall him posting to try and win that buck 444 which is strange for him to not show when you say his name ... like on that bostan lawyer show say his name say my name rhino rhino not an albino you know he is correct on that you can bet even tho he is blue he still loves you rhino...

Dave, et al...
I do not have a problem with it at all. I was just wondering if anyone had ever seen that "golden eye" gig before. I am VERY happy with the knife and left positive feedback. Paid like $6 for shipping. No problems at all...was just wondering if anyone had seen a brass pin in a nickel bolster.

...I'd use that 110 gooser. With the 25th Anniversary blade gone it's a great lookin' 110 with a BG-42 blade and a weird pivot pin for you to talk about when yer with buddies and that cold  dead silence sets in...LOL...I have users of all the steels Buck has used except for 154CM and I gotta say that the BG-42 in the 110's and 532's that I EDC are far and away better than all the rest...Fantastic cutting and edge-holding ability...
