110 clip point vs 110 drop point

If only one..drop point. Simply because it is stronger and will take more abuse. In the 112 there is few versions that are basically a 'spear point ' kinda in between a clip and pure drop point. I like the look of a high radius grind drop point but never used one. I seen a picture of a 110 in Damascus like that and believe 5 blades were made?
Regardless go with S30V..You will be glad you did!

I think the drop point kind of took hold in the '80s. I've had them and used them, but always wandered back to a clip. Thats as users go, anyway.

If it's something that you're going to buy and admire that's a different story. I've bought and kept both blades as part of my collection. I can't really help you there.

Absolutely love my drop 112 and it takes all the abuse and use you give it! It has great hand feel and is no bother in back or forward pocket. I can get it scary sharp and the steel holds an edge better than most knives I own. And then there’s the price point! I’ve heard some get crappy quality but I lucked out- cheersimage.jpg

I have both clip and drop points. I use the clip more often for general purpose probably 75% of the time. The drop point is good out camping/ hunting and around the yard and garden. As far as looks go I like both of them and sometimes think it would be nice if there were a two blade 110 but that would probably be a a monster weighing as much as as 124.
There is, sort of. The drop point blade is a 112 blade.

Mine Weighs 10.2 oz. My 124 weighs 12.7 oz. The problem is, the lock bars are to close together. That make it difficult to depress just one at a time. Which in turn makes closing the knife difficult.

I'd obtain one of each from the production runs.
Figure out which is my favorite, and then order my custom knife accordingly.

I have a preference, but I will admit they each excel at different tasks.

Just an observation,
I've noticed many of the special offerings in the recent years tend to be drop points.

The drop point doesn’t look like a 110. Every time I think about buying one I think ”Nope. It is an abomination”.
Do you remember the 110 with the spey blade? It was hideous!

After using 110’s with clip blades for years, I tried to switch to a drop point and kept cutting myself. It was the strangest thing. I went back to my clip points and stopped cutting myself. I have no real explanation for it other than muscle memory.

Plus it did not get under my finger nails as good as the clip point.

Speaking of abominations, everytime I open up a 112, I am struck by how little the blade is. The handle doesn’t bother me but the stubby little blade seems way off. Again its from using a 110 for so long.

Ironically I LOVE the drop point on the 112.

Edit to add:
With so much variation in their diamond wood. Its hard to put together a set. Those are all Indigo aka blue diamond wood. Even the green one. 😂

Reading through another thread about the Buck 110 has got me looking at the custom shop and considering my options.

I’m curious, for the Buck-converted of BF, what’re your thoughts on the newer drop point variant of the blade? I know the history of the clip point and the fact it’s a classic, and as far as looks go I’m not sure which I prefer.

Just wading into the Buck pond here and would love to hear input from anyone who’s got some. Cheers!
1. Assuming you don't already have a 110 (I think I have that right).
2. I had a similar debate some time ago and pjsjr pjsjr really helped me out (though I already owned a couple 110s).
3. I was wanting something more durable but had never myself needed one--I had never broken or even dinged a 110 tip (though I'd seen others do it).
3a. I'm not sure the drop point IS more durable unless you're abusing the point.
4. Consider that the clip point 110 has some nice distal taper to it making the point quite needle-like. The drop point is almost the same thickness all the way down. This makes it super durable, but not as capable with finer tasks.

5. I ended up adding a drop point to my 110 remuda and I love it, but I still go to a clip point more often. If I only had one 110, it would be a clip point.
6. Let us know what you end up with!!
6a. If you want to try out the 110 for the first time (assuming I'm right about #1, above) without spending a lot, go for an inexpensive WalMart blister pack special, an LT (plastic handle), or a used one from eBay.

I can understand why. Like I said, I'm not tanto fan, but it could be kinda cool if done right. It's not anything I'd buy myself, but they obviously have a following.
If they sold in large enough numbers, Buck would do it. It wouldn't be their first Americanized tanto.
