110 Question: S30V Version

I was just about ready to head over to the Cabela web site until I read this thread. I agree that this is a majorly stupid thing, though I did recall reading on the Canadian connection that some Cabela knives were seized at the border. Canada Customs is likely the bad guy here.

Seeing that you live in Mission the smart thing for you to do is get the knife shipped to a buddy across the border, or set up a US post box in Blaine Washington (chances are one of your friends or neighbours has one already).

A US postal box is a really good idea, as the border is only about 20 minutes away. "Anything to declare?" "Ummm...no sir, I went down to the US with these 20 folders." :)

Cabela's refuses to ship knives to Europe, too. I would have ordered a Vanguard and 110 Alaskan Guide versions. Probably they are dangerous weapons in the hands of foreign terrorists or something along those lines. I guess knife business is very prone to fraud and trouble with customs so many shops prefer to not even go there.

It is not ‘so many shops’. It is Cabela’s. I buy a few knives and Cabela’s is the only “world class outfitter” who has ever refused to ship to me. In the end I accepted help offered by a follow forumite (who has an affinity for poultry) who was willing to receive the knife and forward it on to me. So, I got my AG but I was so pissed off at Cabela’s I used it for parts. I now have a 560 with an S30V blade and a 110 with cherry wood and an ATS34 blade. Both are really nice so; That to you Cabela’s.

Sheet Will...I got the same gig with Bass Pro. And, last I checked my passport, I am in the "Land of The Free".
I wanted a 105BP (Rosewood) for Jesus' Birthday.
BP wouldn't ship the fixed blade to CA.
Had to order and have it shipped to an associate in Arizona and have my peep ship it to me.

Now that is just nuts. They wouldn't ship to a state in the same country?! Great. I had my eye on one of thoes Bass Pro 154CPM 110's. Does anyone know if they will ship a 110 to Canada?

A.P.F.
There is a Bass Pro in Vaughn, Ontario. You aught to be able to order the knife without customs ever getting into the act.
So, once again, that to you Cabela’s.

Thank's for the tip, Will, I'll give them a shot.

I had to call and have BP check my zip code before they would ship me the 119 and 105 in wood. But the local Walmart carries the 119 with black handles. For some reason because my zip code was a "in the middle of no where" zip code they shipped it.I was told that if it was near Chicgao they couldn't.But there is a BP up by Chicago that suppose to carry them. Crazy, stupid, politics.

I guess they're making the stupid assumption that if someone lives near a big city they aren't hunters and are more likely to be getting the knives to use in a crime.

Yeah, pretty whack as the there is no length limit law in CA for fixed blades...nor locally in my 'hood.
The one thing that will land you in the Five-O Ranch is a concealed fixed blade.

You really wouldn't have to lie. The knife (s) is legal and you could declare it and pay the GST (about 3 bucks per knife). Chances are Cabelas was stung in the past by a specific case of Canada Customs stupidity and changed their policy accordingly. We have similar issues within Canada as Mountain Equipment co-op won't sell Spydercos anymore because a bonehead law enforcement official told a MEC sales rep that one knife was illegal.

In case any Canadians are still interested in getting the S30v Buck 110 SIR sporting goods (Canadian) is selling them. They are in the latest sale flyer. Cabela's Buck 110 S30V 64.99 (Canadian) from SIR.
There must be some kinda deal between Cabela's and SIR, maybe thats why Cabela's wouldn't sell them directly to Canadians.

I am seriously ticked off with Cabela's. They refuse to ship any knives to Canada, quoting some nonsense about it being against the law. I guess they never heard anything about NAFTA.
Did you do it via phone or online? I just near completed an order from them with all relevant info all i need to do is fill in the credit card info and its done. I see no mention of not selling to Canada.
I will hold off completing my order for now while i wait for a reply from Cabela's customer service regarding their shipping policies. I will post the relevant info here.

While you are at it, the fixed blade S30V Alaskan Guide Vanguard is also a keeper - and a $95 bargain.

I think Canada refuses entry to the -Alaskan- Guides.

Cabela's needs to start selling a CANADIAN Guide Model.

:D

I seem to remember that BUCK has had the same problem with repaired knives going back to Canadians......we had a ferocious thread about that a while back.......the Canadian in waiting was waiting and Joe sent several knives before having success as I recall.

I think you are right. S.I.R. probably got the exclusive distribution rights from Cabela's. Well, all is good, as now I can add an S30V to the herd. :)
