Have been looking for a month or so now at one of the more popular discount sites for their very popular One Armed Bandits to fit a 110/111. For some time they have been "temporarily Out of stock" so I sent an email to theyr help desk. Today I received a response that it doesn't look they will be getting more anytime soon. :(

Does anyone have another source for these? Does anyone have any experience with any other thumb style openers that can be attached to a 110/111 blade. Any help wold be greatly appreciated.

Hope all had a good Christmas and is looking forward to a wonderfull 2008....

Well hi there Gypsy Dan, Long time no see!!

Goose will be along in a bit to let you know where he gets his OAB's.

Don't be a stranger!

At one time, these were available through Smoky Mountain Knife Works; you might try them. Good luck!!

I am guessing this is the place where Gypsy is looking also, this is where Goose referred me to, they have been out of stock for  8 months now?:( I have been checking for them periodically also...

So you can't get them anymore?
Grrrrr.
I was going to buy a few after Christmas for my Buck 110, SOG Tomcat and a Buck 112FG i was going to order.
I still see thumbstuds for sale at some of the knife-making supply websites but they all require you to drill holes in the blade!
Drilling stainless is a major pain, and besides i don't really want to drill holes in my blades.
I want to get a custom 110 this year, no way am i drilling holes in it.

Does anyone here have a link for places still selling the "no drilling required" thumbstud openers?

They pop up on ebay from time to time. I've got three in-bound from the bay.

Cool!
I just did an ebay search but couldn't find any. I tried thumb button/stud/opener, one armed bandit etc but after wading through a lot of listings of knives with thumb buttons i didn't see any listings for just thumb openers alone.
Can you list (or email me) the ebay sellers name? Or maybe the items name?
Or if anybody knows any good sources just post them or email.
Thanks!

I had STR on the forums here add a thumbstud to my BG42 532, and was very happy with it. I may send it back to him one of these days to make the gap behind the blade into a usable choil. He does great work.

You guys simply need to learn how to open and close a 110 with one hand :D

Okay guys, I've located a source for thumbscrews, but not sure it they have them in stock. Go to knifekits.com and look under speciality screws; it looks like they have quite an assortment. Hope this helps!!

Whoops, sorry about that. When I checked these out further, it appears that they all require drilling a hole in the blade for installation. Still an interesting site to visit.

Actually i've been practicing that a lot, i'm pretty good at it after a bit of practice. Thats the pinch and flick method. I can do it left and right handed but i still want some thumbstuds though. The opening is a lot smoother and theres less likely-hood of accidentally throwing your knife when you use the thumbstud method.
I'll just have to periodically check ebay.
Its strange that i can find the patent for the Thumbstud online but i can't find anyone who still sells them.
Oh well, wait and see.

I bought a pile recently of them (after searching so long for them).

Need to pull them out and see where they came from now.

Was bummed though since they are made in china and not Canada as I had expected.

Don't know if these will be good ones or not??? I needed a shorter one so it will not mess up my "Jack" custom sheath. I've been sporting it for about a year. I put a regular Buck button on my new KOA/BG42 and it was going to change the shape of my sheath:eek:. When these come in I'll post a pic of the two kinds side by side.

Here is the auction link....Don't know if this guy has more or if he can get more????

This is where I got my chinese copies (didn't know that till I got them!).

I haven't put one on anything yet so I can't vouch for the quality but they appear solid.

http://www.discountcutlery.net/ Search for "stud" and it will come up, $1.40 each is cheap enough.

No more listed on eBay. There is a little difference in the two. I checked both sources and the one from Classic requires a hole to be drilled which requires special drill bits, but, is probably much more secure. The drill bits are available from the same folks for around a twenty dollar bill. The Chinese made one looks like it simply laps over and has a set screw to hold it in place. Probably OK. I didn't have any luck with the Discount web site so don't know if they're available or not. I guess my only point is to do the Classic one, buy the necessary tool, you're lookin' at around $30 with shipping. Of, course, the next one is really cheap, so if you have a bunch to do, it would be the way to go.

I like the idea, but don't know if I'm willing to put that much into doing one, or two, or three. Would it be feasible to buy a bit, pass it around, split the cost? I don't know.

Cool looks like they are in stock.
Hmmm minimum shipping charge 24$! ( i am in Canada but still shipping is usually in the 4-15$ range for my knife orders)
Guess i will have to build up an order.
Darn the Buck 112fgs are not in stock.
Well if the thumbstuds are a regular item there i guess i can wait for the Buck to come back in stock.

So ohen cepel you have not installed any of the thumbstuds yet (question mark)
Let us know when you install them and give us some feedback, thanks!
:)

For some reason the reply box will not let me use apostrophes or question marks today, if you type it you get the letter e with umglots (sp) over them.
Weird.

I got mine from SMKW...many moons ago. Wish I had ordered more so I can get 'em to you folks. Never thought they'd run out...but they apparently have.

I did a search for "stud" and was surprised, "pleasantly" I may add, that one of your mugs didn't show up. Those look exactly the same as the ones from SMKW and at a good price.
