111 Classic

The photos show on my PC.
The width difference I'm trying to show is 3/16", between the two. The Bass Pro being wider.
Which creates a different heft and feel. I think the different 'feel' is real. I think some are into a lighter, thinner knife and this will appeal to many. DM

Dm did you click on the photo then click on the open icon?

sass, my wife makes the picture on her smart phone then sends it to my email. I download it then right click on the photo. This brings
up a menu. I hit copy photo. Bring it here and hit paste. DM

You say yours has a 3 dot blade... Ok. But yours doesn't not have 'Buck' in fancy script lettering between the two rear stainless pins.
This was dropped early on. DM

Actually, mine does have the "Buck" in script, but it's rather hard to see in that pic.

Guess there's some wear there.

more than happy to help. you cant paste pics they wont work. have to upload them if you have the option to or host them on a third party site that allows linking. the way im doing it is uploading here cause its included in my account level. this picture was too big to allow uploading here. so rather than try to resize it i just loaded it to a third party pic hosting site.

all that aside here is the picture.....of Mr. Martins picture of paperwork etc.

This must be the one you're talking about.
Feels kinda light and weak, though........wouldn't want to have to try to kill a griz with this one.
:D

Whenever I go after a grizzly with a 111, I use the one modified with the knapped steel blade. When the bear sees it, he rolls over and plays dead because he figures I am a direct descendant of Crazy Horse. My slightly wild and crazy guy demeanor probably contributes to the illusion.View attachment 752581

I have had good luck with an app called Image Size. My iphone 7 has better resolution than my ipad Pro 12.9, but it is easier to compose pictures on the large screen. All of my shots are hand held and are uploaded directly from the pad using Image Size to format them.

Try the upload a file at the bottom where you do your reply or posts, it should take you to all of your files select pictures, find the picture you want select it then open it. It should upload to the forum then you have a choice to make it full-size or a thumbnail. When your Wife sends you the photo save it to your files or photo gallery or wherever, but save it, then do the above. This is what I do and it works every time.

Ok, sass I'll give that a try. I suspected there was a way if I knew the steps. Thanks, DM

The date on my papers is 4-81. So, early 81 and the knife was mfg. some time prior. Probably a month rounded ball park figure.
These being some of the first that came out, other than the brass frame. Still, I think Buck has a new looking model here. Just modify it
and voila. Thanks for the discussion. DM

Tiguy, I like your yellow coated blade. Is that a ion fusion? I believe a Ti coated (gun bluing) blade would look good too. DM

I have ten Buck Classic 111s! I prefer the mirror polish blades and lighter colored sheaths, but I like them all! Yes they can be damaged by keys or coins in your pocket, but I have two of them in my EDC rotation and they are tight and work well....

The Ion fusion blades (BuckCote) that were widely available included TiN (dark Gold), ZrN (Champagne), and TiAlN (charcoal). The pictured 111 has a Titanium Nitride coated blade that is chisel sharpened. You often see this coating on drill bits. It has an HRC of 82.
6061 is a forged material that lends itself to anodization. My guess is that it would not do well with high relief or shiny surfaces.

I have had a couple of the 111 classics, my wife bought me one with my name already engraved in it when she found it, then she noticed the last name was misspelled. It is part of my EDC group now.
