112 Ranger Sport Love Club?

I have suddenly developed a desire to learn more about, and possibly acquire, one of these micarta clad beasties.

I have always wanted to try a 112, but never have.
Much of that stems from the fact that I never really carried a folder.

My first folder was a '60s era, knock off, Boy Scout folder with the fork and spoon on the outside.
It was big, dull and cumbersome. So I gravitated towards fixies and never looked back.

I tried a few Spydercos, and several others, still no love.

The knife that turned me around on folders, and EDCing one was the Benchmade Bugout.
I went out on a limb and ordered one. I was planning on throwing it in my glove box if nothing else.

I have had that knife in my pocket almost everyday since it was released.
Thin, light, convienent, just there when you need it and unobtrusive when you don't.

I'm wondering if the 112 Sport might be similar?

So talk to me,
Reassure me, tell me I'm crazy, offer me feedback.

I can take it.

The 112 Sport is thicker and heavier than the Bugout but definitely more robust. I own both and carry the 112 much more frequently for the above reasons and also due to the clip point blade vs drop point on the Bugout.

As mentioned above, the TRX is more comparable to the Bugout and a great knife as well. It just doesn't deploy as well as the Benchmade.

I really like the 112 Sport. It feels much more like a standard 112 than the slims. I like the slims too though. Hah

Like with other compromises the 112 sport feels better when using as a knife, where the 112 slims feel better when clipped in a pocket.

I may have snagged a 2023 February BOTM, but they were gone before I even saw the email.

Thanks to all for responding,

I will work through all the responses later today, right now I have miles of snow to plow.

The key advantage that the Sports have over the Slims is that they have exactly the same blade shapes as the standard 110 and 112. I don't like the blade shapes on the Slims.
Having always lusted after the original 112 Ranger ^^^This^^^ is what is driving my bus right now.

Big fan of the 112. The 112 Sport is a great knife. But, as a lefty, I had to remove the pocket clip, and carry it in the belt sheath. The Slim Select's and Pro's are truly ambidextrous. I REALLY wish that Buck had taken the time to add screw holes on the other side of the knife to make it lefty friendly. Anybody know someone that could do this for me?

A very friendly gun smith might do it for you... But last time I wanted something tapped they wanted $37.50 per hole...

Blacked out Sport BOTM from like Sept last year maybe?

Well, I was in a local Sporting Goods store today.

So I caved and grabbed a 112 Ranger Sport.

I held it, opened it, and closed it. I liked it, so I bought it.
I didn't do a detailed inspection, It's a Buck Knife, I shouldn't have to.

I bring it home and I had a package waiting a Stormy Kromer Mackinaw.

So I take my new Ranger out of its box, and cut the packing tape.
I like the way this knife looks, I like the way it feels in hand,

But after I closed it I heard a noise.
This thing rattles!

When closed, the blade has so much play it hits both sides of the liner.
If I practiced I could do Morse Code with it.

$130.00+ for a Buck and I get this?
Not impressed.

Doesn't anyone care about doing a good job anymore?

If I grasp the bolsters with my thumb and forefinger, I can squeeze it and make it stop.
But man this is disheartening.

I was very excited about this knife.
I went and grabbed my Anniversary 110, solid as a rock.

I paid almost double for the Ranger Sport.
And it will probably turn out to be a great little knife.
But man I tire of issues that shouldn't exist.
