I've had good luck with BladeHQ and know Emerson would not knowingly let that unit out the door.

Yes, it is a mystery, and I wonder if it will ever be sorted out what actually happened with that knife. Strange.

One would think Blade HQ would inspect their knives, but that is pure speculation on my part. They could get hundreds of items in every day, and there is no way they can inspect each and every one.
 
I think my next knife purchase is going to be an emerson from bladeHQ after reading this.

I had no problems with my horseman from blade HQ. The etching looking like that is not normal and the centering is usually a little off but not that bad. I would either send back to blade HQ or talk to emerson they have great customer service form my experience.
