Mr night and everyone, that has a 1 x 42 sander. Tracey at USA knifemakers supply, has surgi sharp leather belts, that's what I sharpen with, I recommend everyone get one, it makes stropping. Fast..

Hey J...I got an emphatic NO when I asked this in the knifemaker's area awhile back, but do you use compound on the leather grinder strop or just go bare leather? And is that your finishing point for sharpening or do you use some sort of compound by hand to finish up?

I am not J and you didn't ask me nor am I a knifemaker, but I use a leather belt to finish sharpening with white compound and I don't see how I could get a knife any sharper or durable.

well, use Green Chrome compound,, on the leather belt.. that is how i put final edges on everything.. but i have a 2x72 Kmg... it has balls

I'll have to try the compound then if that's what works for you. I never really understood why it couldn't work on a grinder. I have a Craftsman 2x42...it has maybe one ball
