There is another thread where the OP wanted suggestions about overbuilt folders and suggestions he got! Instead of continuing to recommend things to him after he made purchases, posting stuff in here might be cool.

Apparently this exists, I actually had no clue it was coming out. I guess only time will tell how rugged it truly is but it appears to have the workings for a hard use folder.

1095 steel - .16" thick blade which appears to be about 4.4" and just under 10" unfolded. Its a liner lock. Also interesting is the inclusion of the bow drill divot and other things but Im not making this thread about the Fieldcraft so Ill stop here.

For knives that I did knew existed prior to today the Benchmade Adamas is a stout knife.

I like the way Hinderer grinds the spine on his spanto and spear points.

Then of course Medford makes some beasts. Props to stabman for hard using his Medford, all credit for this photo belongs to stabman.

Agree? Disagree? Additional suggestions?

Tough or overbuilt are relative terms depending on the situation when it comes to folding knives. Anyway, the Benchmade Griptilian or mini Grip are tough knives that are capable of withstanding a lot of abuse, pretty much any Cold Steel equipped with the Triad Lock are tough knives (According to them anyway).

Ha ha ha!!!! Those things are cool!!! Do you own them?
Nah, too rich for my blood (~1000$+ from what I can tell), I can appreciate the work Phil Harvey puts into his knives though. To me they are "Ornate Medfords" really thick, really heavy duty and of questionable practicality in day to day use, but cool to look at and probably cool to own.

The Gladius is definitely a fun knife to own. It’s under $1,000, which in my opinion, is a bargain for a well made, unique, custom that uses enough material to make at least 3 knives.
As far as being practical for day to day, unless you’re a giant, the Gladius is way too big common tasks but once you whip it out, everybody wants to fondle it.

Holy moly, those Harvey's are impressive. I don't know though. Isn't the pivot still going to be the weak point on a folder? Therefore, you can have a 10mm thick blade and handles/scales, but if the pivot goes, then you were still better off carrying a fixed piece. I suppose we all face this quandary at some point; rabbit hole perhaps...

For me, during camping trips, I have Spydie PM3 in my pocket, and a Becker/Ritter RSK on my hip or in my backpack. I have several low-mid tech "hard use" production folders, such as few ZT0550s, a Cold Steel UH, and a Hinderer Spantoon, but none can replace the aforementioned combo.

But yeah, that Harvey is crazy.

Tough and overbuilt are relative and subjective.
For me any folder more than a Buck 110 is too much.

I personally like folders of any type that use the same construction layout as the production Strider folders. In that I mean One side g10 (or cf) and the other Ti. I think that can provide a plenty strong construction and a liner under the g10 is not necessary.

Of course double Ti is plenty strong too. Something about certain folders makes them feel very tough too. The grind on my Emerson cqc7s mean the tip can be used for moderate prying without worrying about snapping it. At the same time the chisel grind is superb for getting sharp.

That said two seriously beastly looking folders which I do not own but have always looked at and thought “damn that looks sturdy” is the Grayman Satu and TSF Beast.

Idk why but something about these knives makes me imagine they are super sturdy.

Here are some tough knives I do own. Lionsteel Sr1a and Buck CSAR

The Szabo is a pretty beastly knife.

I have the collab brother the Lionspy too seen here with another italian knife, Extrema Ratio m1a1 a SAK that never skips leg day.

If they would only remove the recurve on the Satu, I'd own one. I just suck at sharpening. Perhaps they're saying the same thing about me: "If that guy would just learn how to sharpen a damned knife, he could own one of ours".
