You have admitted to having lots of failures even more than your successes. That means that you have no idea how to heat treat.

Your work is so bad that no one will even pay you for it.

Facts won't stop you. I've made something like 250-300 "successes" in O1 and 26c3. I've had fails in more alloys. The total number of things that I've made in those alloys is somewhere around 15.

I could charge for chisels without much issue - you may not really grasp this concept, but I have a day job. I like to make more than just tools and knives. If I start charging for tools, then I get an order list and now I have two jobs, plus I have a business, which i'm not set up for.

I realize this is where most people do the cowboy part, working in a residential shop (in the house or attached) with residential insurance running a business and not thinking about what will happen if they have a claim. Sounds rotten to me. I work with paying clients during the day and hard deadlines and no real discretion in terms of what I work on. I don't need that at night. Riddle me how much you have to make in a given year before you cover the costs just of having a baseline business - insurance (including dealing with what insurance may or may not allow you to do), taxes, liability insurance, keeping books.

You have a talent for creating a reality that you want to see. I've stated facts the entire time - like I said, I'm not that fragile and not stuck on some ego issue where i feel like I need to do anything other than that. My comments above about your manipulating things that are already in your head vs. having any real curiosity or really ability to absorb reality are based on what you have above. Combined with the desire to generate consensus and lobby everyone...that last part is really weird.

I'm trying to unwind why some things made historically are better than we'd expect and why things made now with more process control aren't. but, that's only part of it.

Generally speaking, they aren't. A lot of what we think of as better is just our tendency as humans to worship the past.

Another big part, probably the biggest is planned obsolescence.

Take razors for instance. A modern made straight razor is in every way the equal, if not superior to a razor made 150 years ago. However, a modern cartridge razor is not. It does not last as long and it does not shave as closely. Why? Because it's designed to fail sooner and designed so that you need to shave every day to keep a close shave. It's designed at it's base level to sell more razor cartridges.

The same thing applies to nearly every product out there. If it doesn't wear out fast enough, you can't sell more.

Your evidence of your superior heat treatment is cutting a soft loaf of bread.
