for anyone looking for a cheap sheath...
(disclaimer: I support kydex makers and a fitted kydex sheath is better than this. If you have the money buy from one of the local makers here on bladeforums)
Rothco 871 Black GI Type Plastic Machete Sheath (it says 1991 machete)
Total cost after shipping is about 15$ on amazon.
It comes with a weird military clip that goes to some modular system that I don't use. It's like a vertical 2" webbing clip. It also comes with a 'sharpener' in the form of a carbide v sharpener that swings over into the blade space. The clip doesn't help me and the sharpener is only going to end up chipping and destroying the edge instead of actually sharpening it. The clip also has a rivet on the inside that makes the space thinner, too thin for this 3/16" blade. It works but it's sticky as is.
how it rests in the sheath:
This is after removing all the hardware and cutting the end off to about 14.5". The top of the sheath is wide, wider than the blade, but the body of it is meant for a 1/8" machete. Because of this you can't insert the knife so that the spine is right up against the edge of the sheath, because it's too tight of a fit. However if you insert it so the edge of the knife is touching the edge of the sheath (so the spine is in the center) it has great tension. Tight enough to grip it but loose enough for easy withdrawal.
It's a prime set up for a cordura outer shell if thats what your into. Overall it's got good functionality for the cost, and works with this blade with a bit of dremel work.
