150$ suggestions !?

Boker Federal might be worth a look, it satisfies all of your requirements but it's definitely off the beaten path.
Just got a Boker Federal and am very impressed with the design. Cant really say how the edge holds up havent had time to use it but Boker does pretty good with 440C.

Mine has been doing well. I had to sharpen it as it was dull out of the box but its been holding a good edge through moderate edc use.

Ignore the last post by marcinek.

chrisfa, I haven't got a Rift, though I've been tempted. I have the dive knife sister model with the same handle. Very ergonomic. I got to play with a Rift and it felt really secure in hand. Nice blade, they used it again in the Contego. :)

Good luck with your search!

I suggest picking up a Benchmade 710 in CPM-M4 while they are still available. They're right around the $150 price point. The 710 is an incredibly unique knife in that it packs a huge blade (almost 4") into a sleek handle that carries like a much smaller folder in the pocket. The slight recurve makes it an incredible slicer, and the axis-lock is the best lock on the market in terms of deployment speed, strength, and ease of use.

Also consider the BM 940 and 950, if you're looking for slightly smaller knives. The 940 is the better option because the 710 actually carries better and is a tad lighter than the 950.

BMs presidio or prsidio ultra are great knives and are similar to the griptilian but with a much better handle shape. Hogue Ex-01 is another amazing knife in that range it comes in at exactly 3.5" blade with either full aluminum or full G10 (gmascus) handles.

I was going to suggest the Rift. I carry mine quite a bit. You might also look at the BM 520. It's a pretty big folder but very tough. There are some 525s available if you want a 3" blade in that same style. Also, the ZT 200 is a manual folder, but it may be a bit over your price and size limits. An Emerson would be a nice alternative, but most of the larger ones in your size range are going to be a bit over your $150 limit. If you can go a little more, I'd recommend a CQC15, either regular or mini.

that presidio looks good but do you 100% trust that axis lock? watching some of those fail videos the lock seems to fail without heavy use if you hit it in the wrong spot. i dont know about those omega springs....

I've used AXIS locks for almost 10 years now with no lock failures and no broken springs... not one. They've gone to work with me, they've gone camping with me, they've done everything they're supposed to do every single time.

maybe it's a matter of luck with these axis locks? some people like yourself own benchmades and never have any axis lock problems while some have problems off and on with the springs breaking, and more than once.

This is my experience as well. I have been using AXIS lock knives since I bought my first 710 in the early 2000's and I have never had a lock failure and never broke an OMEGA spring. As far as I am concerned this is my favorite locking system and I trust it completely.

Now back to the original question.
Benchmade 710
Benchmade 943
Benchmade 950 Rift
Hogue EX-01
Kershaw 1725CB Junkyard Dog

the number of failed springs is a very small percentage of all axis locks out there, that said I fully trust the lock. the springs don't break while open or closed they break while moving the lock so while open they knife is perfectly fine. you should look up the axis stress tests on youtube as well since they show the locks true strength.

I love the axis lock. It's a different world once you get one. I'd suggest the BM 15020 Bone Collector.

i noticed the bm 15020 bone collector is a lockback? is the axis lock stronger than a lockback?

for the most part yes but the exception would be the tri-ad lock. the axis is much easier and smoother to use 1 handed and ambidextrously.

I have had no many nice blades including a couple emersons that i just didnt like because of the stuffness of them. I like that glide open glass smooth i dont like knives that if i open and close it for like 10 minutes it eats the skin off my thumb.

This 150 is from a mini cqc8 that i sold just recently and thats where the amount came from.

BM 940/943 are fantastic, tough, lightweight and thin folders. I used to carry big bulky folders b/c I though I would need to pry myself out of a brick room, but I finally realized that rarely happens to me since I moved out of Cleveland :0. You get a big knife in a small package that you don't even know is there, which is the point of an EDC in my book.

i see. i know cold steel uses the tri-ad lock, but are there alot of others that use it?
