150$ suggestions !?

i see. i know cold steel uses the tri-ad lock, but are there alot of others that use it?

From my understanding the only other person who uses the triad lock is andrew demko in his customs. But he also designed the triad lock.

cold steel vs benchmade vs zt, which can take the most abuse?

I know that zt has well made nice sturdy knives. But the liner lock ones are well.. just a liner. And the frame lock is just a frame lock. All the pressure that causes a lock to slick and fail is stil going on to the liner or frame regardless of how good its made. As where the triad lock actually distributes it away from the lock directly and into the stop pin. Id say for pure strength on the lock its self cold steel is prob the strongest then axis behind it with then frame and liners. Just my .02 though im no expert.

If you are concerned about the frame or liner failing turn the knife over you are cutting with the wrong edge

I would expect ZT to survive a bad depression the best or be resurrected quickly after one passes since it's attached to the biggest and most diverse knife company (KAI) of those three brands.

I get what you meant, but you really need to compare specific models/locks if you want pros/cons.

Getting back on topic, I recommend a rift like many others before me. I carry one every day and I find no faults with it. It fits my hand securely and comfortably in a variety of ways, does not slip out of my pockets, is light enough and slim enough to carry very comfortably, and since mine is the two tone rather than the solid black most NKP think it's beautiful rather than assuming it's a weapon. My all black para 2? Evil.

well i think i'd like to take the plunge and just try one out otherwise i'll be talking about them forever and never buy one.
i've thought about the zt's but i'm not a fan of assisted opening so i guess that eliminates something like the zt 300. i'm looking at the mini grip or regular grip right now.

Go to a knife store if you can. For a mini grip, an REI will work since there is an REI special model. I don't recommend getting that model since it's a combo edge and I don't like those, but you can fondle one and decide if it's for you. Alternatively, check sporting and hunting stores near you.

No. The Tri-Ad was developed by Andrew Demko, who uses it on his customs. But he has only licensed it to Cold Steel, where he works now, designing knives for them.

i would suggest a benchmade 810 contego in cpm-m4. it's not auto or assisted, which i steer clear of. axis lock, g10 scales, horrible jimping(though easy to fix that), reverse tanto blade, 3.9 inch blade, excellent slicer, strong lock. i wish you luck!

You may be able to find a ZT 0560 Blem for your budget. I'll be selling one for $165.00 at the end of next week in the for sale forum. 3.75" blade length, 9" opened length. Never sharpened, mainly used as a desk ornament.

$150 really is a tough price range. I would recommend getting past any preconceptions and get a Spyderco Paramilitary 2. IMO, all things considered, it is by far the best folder in or around that range. I have had -not one, but both- omega springs break on a Benchmade so that has left a sour taste in my mouth for the design. YMMV. I've also owned lots and lots of knives and my max weight is 5oz so that cancels out many potential recommendations including most ZTs. Mechanically, the Houge knives are excellent but IMO the designs are craptastic or possibly made for people with really small hands. I dunno man... Like I said its a tough price range for me at least. Do yourself a favor and at least look at some YouTube reviews of the Para2.

I'd love too except it's always out of stock and when it goes in stock it's gone with in 20 mins

I know you said you didn't want to buy another spyderco but the military is well worth consideration if your willing to get that close to the maximum blade length your allowed. In my opinion I think it's the best production knife in that price range. I've had and sold most of what has been being discussed. I'll never sell my military.

can you guys throw me a hint of where there in stock. i want a satin blade and black or digi handled mili and para mili. Cant find either in stock prefer digi handles but id settle for black.

The only spydercos right now im interested in are a mili para mili and yojimbo 2. yojimbo 2 is in stock but it looks kind of small handled.

i noticed the bm 15020 bone collector is a lockback? is the axis lock stronger than a lockback?

You were looking at the wrong Bone Collector. This is the one I'm talking about:

Also, another suggestion I thought of for you would be the 300SN axis flipper, I took the thumb stud off:

Also, btw, I think both lockback and axis locks are strong as you'll need, but I don't like a lockback without a Boyd dent.
