154cm vs ats- 34

I have'nt used mineral oilbefore. I'll keep it in mind. How do you like corrison X? Ivebeen meaning to grab some and try it out.

Love it. A friend gave me a quart, probably 4-5 years ago and I'm still using it. Most of my knives get wiped down with it at some point or another though of late I've been using 3 in 1 for lubrication of pivots and locks and the CX more as a protectant but it works well as a lube also. My usual practice with either knives or guns is to wipe on a light coat of Corrosion X and let it sit for awhile, any where from 5-10 minutes to an hour then wipe it off. If I do that, especially with new items it seems to protect very well. On my blades I find it easier to remove tape residue, sap, etc. On my handguns I find that powder residue, even on the cylinder face of my revolvers literally wipes away with just a cloth. It's good stuff.

Does Buck still use any 154cm?

According to their website if you search by steel choice they list an Alpha Dorado, Mini-Alpha Hunter and the Rosewood Gen-5 Skinner (the Gen-5 is on their site but listed as "currently not available") in 154CM. IIRC awhile back I picked up a buildout 110 in 154CM on a web specials.

I'd verify with a call before buying, though.

You never know about how up to date that website might be on something like that.

gee my two centoves
try s30v... it is highly rust resist and holds an edge longer then 420HC
as to cm154 it sounds good but i have not used it
ats34..i have seen one that had spots on it
the name is traded marked in japen but ...
as to were the steel truly comes from ...
if it is marked as made in usa
on the blade then it is made here

Bucks's 850 Bravo is made w/ 154cm steel. S30v is some nice steel. It takes me longer to sharpen s30v steel because I manually hold my bevels and I hold naturally @ 19-20.5 degs.I've found "scary sharp" in s30v to be around 15-17 degs. I have to pay attention to what I'm doing to sharpen at this flater angle. I haven't seen any s30v with rust spots on it. Its prolly to hard to even spot it. Lol
