1660DAM-Leek

Glad it worked out in the end. And, it's good to know that soap+damascus don't mix, if only for future reference.

That being said, I kinda like the subtly of the washed blade. If washed while disassembled, for uniformity, it might make an interesting variant of the Leeks...

If I remember, the little plastic box 'PCB Etching Kit' RS sold had a small bottle, 8-16 oz, of a rather weak solution of HCl and FeCl. The much more active Cu that wasn't painted in resist was eventually dissolved - and replaced the Fe, with the Fe plating on the CB surface, where it was washed off. Used solution 'might' leave some Cu on a polished SS surface - but I think it would wash off. To be safe, use fresh etchant. Of course, for a much stronger source of HCl, try your stomach! RS did sell larger bottles of etchant at one time - but I haven't seen, or needed, such in years. Do be careful, as used, it does stain pretty well along with the chemical burns.
