The grinder looks awesome, and having never built a grinder, I can't offer any advice. But I'm curious why you positioned the grinder that way. If it were me, I would want the whole thing flipped around so the contact wheel was coming off the corner of the table so I could get more clearance around it.

Just now I understand what you mean ..... Well , grinder is fixed temporary in vise on previous pictures... so I can work around grinder till I finish it
And when we are on position on grinder , did anyone try to grind sitting low and grind with hands on your knees? I saw on tube that one guy grind that way and it look like that way he has better control while grinding ?

I sometimes grind while sitting on a tall barstool chair. I hook my heels on the rungs for support and balance. It works well, and takes the load off my back and legs. I hold the blade in the same "elbows tucked in" stance I do when standing. My knees straddle the spark trap.

In the new shop, the main grinder will be made so it can be easily raised and lowered to accommodate the height of the user, and allow for seated grinding.

Finally :D
First run ...............and I like it ! It eat steel ...FAST !! I decided for 2hp motor , 1390 Rpm and 20 m/s belt speed .And this is my first hollow grind on it ...... free hand  It is so easy to grind on contact wheel . . . .

Now I need to finish it before he kills me ....grinder lays on on two piece of wood :D

It's called sarcasm, I know that's a hard concept for you to grasp but I'm not here to explain it to you. Regardless since you're a mechanical and electrical genius and enjoy showing us simple plebs how foolish we are for buying tools instead of making them out of scrap from a junk heap, I'm sure you'll regale us with your spectacular etching machine design.
Well my friend , my tools made out of scrap from a junk heap works......Do you have any source where I can buy 17 inch contact wheel for $ 20 :D
Obviously you don t like what I do from junk ? Any particular reason for that ?

Please remain civil

I don't like you because you're an arrogant troll who constantly craps all over this forum with your nonsense. Simple enough, don't expect a warm reply when you enter my thread and start your typical bullshit.

Now seriously ..... I have for now only small contact wheel / about 7.5 inch dia./ with rubber/no serration/ to compare with this 17 inch wheel .This one on same SFPM as small one grind much more faster then smooth one .I have not that much experience with contact wheels to describe more ....I m done with this thread .If someone make something like this , please close this big wheel from side because as it is it can be dangerous ....

Fair enough :D You are welcome in my thread any time :) So , when you are already in my thread what do you think about this scrap grinder :p

OK, guys. lets knock it off.

I m almost done with 10 inch contact wheel .Belt was arrived today so I m ready to finish .BUT I have dilema about wheel .What do you think if I move bearing from this side close to other one from opposite side ? ID of bearings is 12mm or 1/2 inch ? When I look at wheel I have some filing that holding that wheel bolted with 12mm bolt supported only from
one side looks somehow weak ?? Shortening distance between bearings will make some difference or not ,what do you think ? If I do that I must do before I put that belt on..........

PS . I found this on net , someone do this before me ......wheel looks completely identical as mine

I'd leave it.
Well , now I'm glad I asked ......... if not for another reason I would do it for aesthetic reasons. Thanks
I have another one 2hp 1400 rpm motor so I decided to build new grinder around this 10 inch wheel , same way as this one with 17 inch ...... so part I was thinking to cut now is important because there will go pulley....:)
This time mounting belt on wheel become nightmare  The problem was that I can t force belt to catch on wheel ,take me long time and nerve .....:D after I manage to get little fit on the wheel , rest was easy ...with help of liquid for dishwashing ....;)
Here it is ,ready .........I balanced it of course ,need to measure this lead weight and to glue right balancing weight

If anyone ever do something like this , or want to put this belt on other type of wheel you need exactly 251mm Dia. wheel for this SKF PHG-800-8M-50 belt .It's not easy to set it up on wheel but when done it is very firmly ......
