17 pounds of infi, lots of of paint and fire..... pic heavy

I am sure I am in the minority, but I think it looks like a mess. The scrap INFI is cool but the Tin stuff behind it looks like crap.

i guess that is what makes art special.... folks can have their own ideas... and are free to have them. its a concept as old as humanity, the first form of democracy i guess.

That's the original SHBM with the original MS!!! . . . . Now you can see where the MS came from . . . It fit perfectly in between 2 SHBMS! That web is from the very first run!

Chris, that is awesome work!!. . . You have captured quite bit of Busse Combat history there in your amazing work of art!!!

Great job!!!

Jerry :D

.

So, Jerry, you just happened to have 10 year old scrap laying around the shop? I might have thought that the old webs would go back to be re-smelted. You must have some interesting stuff tucked in various corners over there!

those look like straight handled battle mistresses and old style mean streets...

either thats a new sheet from some old school designs, or thats a very old sheet of metal :D

I believe all the straight handled steel hearts were drop point rather then clip point...

(edit to add: oooooooooooh the knives I could design to fit those center pieces between the cut outs!)

No, although a drop point version came out soon after, the first BMs were clip points.

Jerry told me he has rooms of old steel......lol maybe he will do a special run of antique infi....lol

It would be neat to see you use that as some sort of mold and burnish the tin into it. Then use that for a tin covered ceiling.

So true.

I, however, very much like it.

I may be experiencing some 'intellectual growth' in old age. My dearest youngest (girl) is now in Art School at VCU -- and this is forcing me to stretch beyond my previous, science-based limits. That girl experiments in every artistic direction!

Have you seen or heard of a documentary called "My Kid Could Paint That"?

My Kid Could Paint That

IMDB My Kid Could Paint That

No. But I'll look it up!

EDIT: Just watched the trailer. I like it. Of course, to me, my daughter is equally talented. I believe I'll have to watch the whole thing. Things for the insight.

The story is that this kid (her dad is an artist) started painting and her stuff was selling for tens of thousands of dollars. The film maker was doing a film about her. He was not trying to debunk just doing the story. The family then was getting grief about the possibility that her dad was coaching her and telling her what to paint. The family went to the guy making the film and asked him as a friend to intervene and end the controversy. He then realized that in all of his footage and time with the family he had never actually seen her paint. So he leaves it up to the viewer to figure out whether she is a prodigy or if the dad is running a scam.

Old physics.... i am friends with a gallery owner that rep'd her work..... she is legit i think, and i truly love her art, i can speak from my own experience .... my two year old painted a peice that many have commented on thinking it was mine..... it is a great peice, however she doesnt do them with method or thought process, and not everytime.

in many ways children have an advantage when it comes to FINE ART..... they have no preconcieved notions, they have no limitations and no boundries.

i have often said that my art went from finger painting at 3, to figurative at 6 to realism at 11 to abstraction at 18 to fingerpainting at 28...... back where i started.

Reminds me of when I took the Steel Heart 1 prototype in to Jim Weyer (Famous Knife Photographer) and he said something along the lines of, "Who would want this piece of crap?. . . You didn't even need to bring it in for the photo shoot, I've got plenty of knives laying in the back room that look just like it!. . ." In his opinion, if it didn't have ivory handles and engraved bolsters, it just wasn't worth looking at. . . . I drove 5 hours that afternoon to buy my own camera set-up and never bothered with him again. . .

Again VTW, Beautiful work!

Jerry :D

That also describes my youngest. She's 18+ now ... and in Art School. I'm hoping she continues traveling VTW's path. I'd like to see her happy ... I'd also like to see her successful and comfortable. :)

We'll see. All I'm really sure of is that she has passion and loves art. I'll support her and we'll see where it goes.

Thanks for the comment!

Very nice work VTW! Kudos to you as well, on handling a rude and unsolicited comment in such a professional manner.

Who knows??

Let her develop some real skills, first. And some breadth in her discipline.

She really seems to be enjoying art school.

I may never really understand her, being an engineer and scientist myself. :o

not that your asking for it, but i am one of a hanfull of fine artist that have translated carreers in the business world and retained a fine art carreer.... i also have battled the demons of 'an art brain' ..... i speak on occassion at a few schools, high schools as well as fine art schools on a variety of subjects, i do this for free and at my own expense because i think i have valuable information and life experiences that can help..... also there are a hanfull of folks that made huge impacts on my life with very simple 15 minute conversations.... they took me serious when i was 11 years old.... talked to me with respect and i heard them.... old physics you deserve alot of credit for not telling your child 'that is no way to make a living' and if you have ever even expressed concern to her of 'how practical' an art career is... run , do not walk to her and tell her how sorry you were for doubting her.... its hard for parents to watch a child walk into an idea that doesnt translate into a secure means of making money.... so you my friend (old physics) deserve respect and praise for doing this with support and love.....anyway.... my point is
you should have her come up to my shop for a few days.... she could use a plasma cutter to make something fun.... and hear me rant and rave about what it takes to maintain sanity

art is more than skills or techniques..... it is life.

and by the way i find it funny that JERRY is a theater major...... there is a portion of jerry's business that reminds me of mine in so many ways.....

How was I rude? I was honest, which is not the same thing. I would be doing him a disservice if I blew smoke up his tailpipe and said something that was untrue.

And, my comment was in fact solicited- this is a thread posted on a public discussion forum. all responses received are solicited.

I never said all his crafts look bad, nor did I insult him. I merely commented on the appearance of the one piece.
