After reading this thread, I watched half dozen Youtube knife reviews, and, BOY, are most of them rotten!

I see what you all mean about shilling for sponsors, it's shameless, and really de-values anything they say. And as for curse words...they devalue anybody's opinions in a Youtube Knife review. I probably wouldn't have noticed it had David Mary not pointed it out. Perhaps many of the reviewers are trying to become "influencers", so professionalism isn't their goal, only "clicks."???

"This knife is awesome"
"This knife is F#$%ing awesome".

Which statement carries more weight for a grown-up?
The second one, which is why they do it. Salesmen use the same trick. People that curse have a tendency to be more honest, they're not filtering, just speaking in many cases. We recognize that on some level so cursing can actually prime a customer, or viewer in this case, to place more trust in what they say.

So who do you all look to; for reviews and other information?

Often just a few photos alone will seal the deal! The first things I check is the specs sheet and the price. After a while we all know what we like, what we need and which companies can give that to us and which ones can't. At this point I often already buy the knife.

As for the times when I do need more info.
Sadly, Pagerank is a joke. I try to go past the top search results, looking for the smaller, more obscure, reviewers, with fresh aspects, and new ideas about what is a good knife. Support the underdogs!
I also trust this forum, spyderco's forum and a few others.

BTW, SS Steve moved to Rumble, there should be good content on alternative platforms all over the place just waiting to be discovered..

Like others have said. If there is a knife I'm interested in, I will search youtube for videos on it. Mainly to see how it looks in hand. I don't pay too much attention to what is being said. I've learned to disregard a good chunk of it. It seems like many of the recent vids I've watched are from Russian reviewers. I don't speak Russian or bother with closed captions, I just want to see a little about the knife.

Knives on YT still serve a small purpose for me.
Sometimes I notice significant details during a high def video of a knife being handled. It doesn't have to cut anything for me to see what I'm looking for, and I don't buy sketchball knives so I don't feel the need to worry about the heat treat either. Manufacturing errors happen but the companies I buy from are solid.

So just seeing it in various lighting and angles is often all I need to answer any lingering questions I had

I don't need a review. I don't know who is getting free items or $ in exchange for a review nowadays. I'm a suspicious 50 year old who gets more suspicious as time goes by.

Between the listing of specs on a website like DLT, BHq, or KC, and maybe watching some videos on YT of the knife in hand, I can make my own decision.

I have a big hand and like a big(ger) knife with a longer, beefier handle. I know David C Anderson of KC has a big(ger) then normal hand. When he grabs a knife and the handle looks cramped, I know I probably wouldn't like it. A few minutes of video of him holding a knife can be useful for me. Do I listen to what he says? Not really. YMMV.

After carrying a knife for almost 35 years, I have a pretty good idea of what I like and don't like. For those that are new to the knife game, I can understand they watch reviews on YT. My advice is to take their info with a grain of salt.

The guys from BladeHQ, and The Knifecenter don't influence my decisions; but I like them. I think I like Nick S for the how-to videos.
I really like watching Spydiechick's knife handling, and I love her voice...
But there's not a lot of useful info there.
(Okay: she might be a "guilty pleasure...:)

I just dont like how these boob tubers become the voice of the knife world, and having knives w their logos sold by dealers; thats the last thing i want on my blades is one of their logos on the blade. The only good thing is seeing the knife in hand, its functioning and size.

I love the 2 guys known as "Dutch Bushcraft Knives" on YouTube. Their videos are usually quite entertaining, and they don't take anything too seriously. I usually have a chuckle or three watching any of their reviews.
Are those the guys that tested a real Bigout next to a fake?

I used to enjoy Doc. Frunky and EpicSnuggleBunny for niche brands and things I wouldnt normally stumble upon...but they recently retired from YT.

I am more into the sharpening / steel nerd type YT knife vids now as well as the bushcraft type stuff just bc it makes me daydream when I am stuck in the office all week.

Like any hobby, the gun world comes to mind, the engineering & development cant keep up with the content creators release schedule, so after enough time, people are just talking minutia and revisiting old topics ad nauseam.

Lol, way bigger things to become disillusioned over lately than knife reviewers on YouTube. 🙁
