Ok..., Ok, I have had extensive experience with Baers, Browns, Wilsons, Kimbers, Springfields, Sigs, and Colts. I had made up my mind (Baers) until I saw the relatively new Nighthawk AAC. I have read that the company was started by Wilson's ex-wife. I don't know if that's true, but I suppose it's irrelevant. Both companies are, however, located in Berryville. To the point..., is Nighthawk just a better looking Wilson??? Not fair??? Ok..., is Nighthawk the equal of a Baer??? ANY Baer??? I KNOW they can't be better, so I will leave my question as is............:). Comments? Bring 'em!!!:D

Just wanted to add that my new hammer will be carried on the other side of my new Outlaw. Thanks, Skunk!!!

if you search the gun forums there are lots more little nagging problems with NHC than wilson. Not saying their bad, but not better or better looking than wilson. The good ones are great. They do stand behind their product. At the pricepoint you really can't go wrong. If you want it I am sure it will be a great piece. It is all a matter of taste really.

Thanks for the comments, and I agree. However, if they are not comparable (read equal) to Baer models, then I am afraid of being disappointed. And, at that price, I can buy a new Baer AND a case of ball ammo. Will the Nighthawk shoot as good as it looks??? They are currently a little north of 3G$, IF you can find one.

I personally would steer away from Nighthawk. I've read too many bad stories here on the internets to make me comfortable dropping 3K on a pistol.

I have heard a lot of good things lately about Guncrafter Industries. You may want to check out their "no name" model.

Wilson Combat...............Wilson Combat.....................Wilson Combat................have you seen their new site?......................Wilson Combat...............

Im sorry to jump into this post with really no experience as the only really nice gun I have now is my sig 229 equinox. But do Para ordinance even deserve to be in the shadow of the 1911's you listed? Just wondering as that was the brand I was thinking about for a 1911. My brother has a colt series 70 govt. model and that was a beautiful one.

Para, colt-awesome 1911s for the money. Have you ever driven a new Honda? Awesome car for the money--great gas mileage, extremely dependable, I just wish we made them here in the US. Wilson Combat.......well have you ever driven a Maybach Mercedes Benz or a Porsche 911 turbo. Expensive, excessive, not something you need but something you really want because........just because. No matter how practical you are, there is just something about driving that luxury car that the Honda just can't touch. Can you tell I'm a WC fan?

I totally get what your saying. Cool. Appreciate the way you put it too. Not putting down one. THanks wolfdad.

Beautiful dog in your avatar by the way. I have a all black german.

I have 2 Wilson combat 1911 (Tactical supergrade and CQB Elite)also 2 Les Baers(TR special and CC)nothing comes close to Wilson's attention to details.I like the Les Baer guns, however I am not so happy with the finish,Wilson will have all of the fit and finish you will ever desire.WC > NH. With WC you will get an experienced extraordinary craftsmanship, any Wilson model will perform at an exemplary level, and If you can afford it, get a supergrade.

All black GS!! awesome--want to see pics!! I have another thread going right now with my current GSD, Rocco who is a black sable--if you get a chance please post some pics of yours on there, would love to see. The dog in my avatar is one of my wolf dogs that I used to have with my ex wife. He's 125lbs now and the female is a 100lbs. Long story short I wasn't going to fight with her over them and I knew she will take very good care of them so I gave them to her in the divorce papers--was not a very pleasant time in my life-they were a big part of my life. But it's ok, I have Rocco now:)

TACTICAL SUPERGRADE with upgrades on it's way within a week or so. Pics will be up as soon as I have it. been waiting 9 months-sigh. CQB elite too, buddy you got two of the best. We will need to see pics of those as well.

I have or have had all but NHC. I've just read too much bad stuff on the gun forums to want to drop that much cash. IMO, Baer makes the best 1911 for the money. Best fit/finish goes to Ed Brown. My wilson sentinel didn't have the best fit/finish. All shoot fantastic, very accurate and are drop-dead reliable.

Of the three big makers listed, I still own my baer and brown. Choosing between them is kinda like choosing a really hot blonde or a really hot brunette. You just can't lose. Honorable mention goes to the STI Trojan, Dan Wesson (CZ)... both fantastic as well. And don't forget Mr. Browning's other little piece of genius... the high power. :D

If you want a top of the line single stack? There is no other choice than an Infinity pistol!!! They are like the Busse Custom shop!

Check out their web site http://www.sviguns.com/1500.php
What ever caliber what ever color what ever size what more could you ask for???.....Wait I know a INFI pistol!!!!

A note about the cheaper 1911's like Para's. They are excellent pistols for the money and can get pricey on the upper end. Sti is another that has a broad range of prices and quality. Of course a basic springfield 1911 is an excellent starter platform for future custom job. I have never ever heard of an SA 1911 frame or slide break or crack. Of course any colt makes a great starter, but no basic colt compares to a high end gun. Taurus has an excellent pistol at the lower end of the price scale. At the $1k and under pricepoint I would say SA and Sig rule the 1911 world. The best bang for your buck under $2k is Dan Wesson. over $2k, Les Baer, Wilson, NHC, Brown and countless custom shops like Novak are available and all good. Novak was one of the first to make a successful combat reliable and accurate 1911. They were the first to get the FBI contract to build 1911's. They, however, could not meet production. Both Wilson and Les Baer took up production and Wilson was dropped at the time for unknown reasons. Les Baer could not meet production schedules and Springfield custom shop took over. But in the high end market to say that one custom shop rules all is ridiculous. There are probably 20 high end custom makers/shops that I would love to receive a 1911 from. If only I was made of money.

As far as the cost goes. They are all excessively priced these days. $3k for a gun that can only carry 10 bullets max? Insane..!!! My B10 never needs reloaded!!!!

It took 9 months for my SG to be built and around 3 months for the CQB Elite but that was last year of course.
