1974-1980 Buck 110 with 3 pins vs 4 in handle

COMMENT FROM A GRUMPY OLD MAN—I wish people would use more care in talking about rivets and handle pins. When someone talks about a 4 pin 110, my only thought is the Two Dot Variation 2 with 4 handle pins. Handle Pins (Pins) are used to secure the scales to the frame. The Rivets, not pins, are used to secure the bolsters and the rocker or lockbar. Don't count three handle pins and one rocker rivet and call it a four pin 110. I feel better now.

Here's what's being described.

Top one looks a lot like my c.1971 two dot, but yours has a better blade. (and your bolsters haven't been attacked with a vibrating engraver by a (probably) drunk and/or stoned moron.)

I think a previous moronic fool owner of mine busted the tip and reprofiled it, rather than send it in to Buck for fixing.

I see this post is from 2007 hope someone is still around
I have one that I know with out a doute was purchased in 1977 my 15th birthday it is identical to the bottom two. 4 pins one being SS,
this does not coincide with the previous post that I just read, that state the 4 pin 1 SS is from the 80's??? And I also wanted to post a picture but that seems to be very difficult on this site??? any suggestions
Just wanted to add I have an extensive Buck knife collection as well of other manufactures.

Read post #63 above. You are mistaking the rocker rivet for a handle pin.

Also, look closely at the size of the three brass pins. You’ll notice in the photo above, the pins on the third knife down are smaller than the pins on the fourth knife. Knives with three small brass pins were made in 1977 according to Buck historians.

You'll need to use an image hosting site (or pay for a membership here). I recommend Imgur. Just paste the link to the individual image, or an album, here.

I don't know what your doute is, but you're reading what everyone is telling you wrong. The top knife is a two pin knife, the second is a four pin. the bottom two are 3 pin knives. You don't count the one you're calling SS, that's a rocker rivet.

In short, the early 110s had two pins, they had four pins for a very short time, then came the three pin knives that are still being made to this day.

Ok I'm not the sharpest pencil in the bunch, I get the difference between the pins now. It helped me figure out which one I have. But no one has answered my question. What time frame was it made? The bottom "3 pin" is the exact knife I have.
I hope dsutton24 you can set me straight??

You should be able answer it for yourself by using the guide linked below. Joe Houser(Buck historian) and others put it together. Some 100/112s it's best to have in hand to identify the correct time frame.

Thank you yes I figured it out. I was starting to think my Dad who gave me the knife (Brand New) was a time traveler.
Thank you pjsjr
