1st Battalion, 87th Infantry, 10th Mountain Division help

FYI - I have "spoken" with CSM Hibbs, but only via the one addy. The addy with the .smil returned an error message to me.

The other addy worked just fine. This weekend I am planning on sending out my contribution.

BTW, those last two are VERY nice. Great job.

I went to the Post Office today and I sent two knives to Todd in baghdad. I look forward to posting some photos of the men who will carry those knives. Keep up the grinding and lets send him a bunch more. TheWoodman007

I wanted to let everyone know in the forum that I’ve received three great knives so far. Two of the three already have a home to go to…as soon as I get the paperwork back for the awards; I’ll present them to the Soldiers. One Soldier is still back in the States going through physical therapy…hopefully we’ll see him back in a few weeks so I can give him his knife (Ken Wolfe’s). The other knife (Eddie Martin’s) will get to his owner within the next week or so. Both Soldiers have been recognized for Valorous acts. I’ll assure you that there will be more to come…unfortunately sooner that later. The next knife that will marry-up with a Soldier will come from Frank Dilluvio…I get to baby sit it until that time. I want to thank you all…this means so much to these warriors. They will never forget, and I will make sure that they understand that a piece of each and everyone of you are in these blades.

Thanks again…Todd

I believe sending the knife makers that have decided to donate their works should receive a couple pictures of the presentation; it’s the least that we can do compared to your generosity that you have displayed through your hard work and time spent. I’d ask you to keep the photos as a personal item that you can hang in your shop or home. We as Soldiers are not permitted to back or promote civilian products while in uniform. When photos are published in magazines, brochures, web pages that have a Soldier in uniform, it looks like the US Army, or our unit is backing X as a knife maker. If it remains generic, I’m sure there would not be a problem…the problem arises when people use units, Soldier’s names, etc. I think a way to fix this is to also send you a picture of the Soldier in civilian clothes…out of this environment. Hopefully everyone understands…I do not want a good thing that you have decided to do turn in to something bad.

Hi Todd
just thinking here..
I'm not too sure that would do anymore good than if names are mentioned and or units are mentioned. this has been done now some what.
this forum is open to the public to see. and those that do see it can see it's not meant the way you put it..we know the Army is not behind this it's in black and white here..
..on the last project I believe it was handled in uniform but the names and other identity patches were blocked out on each guy..
these are made for the uniformed guys, I do think it's fitting that the pictures be with and in uniform.
these are not sold to anyone and are gifts and gifts only, if it does make it into any mags, it's only because of the generosity
of the makers not as an advertisement, there are cheaper ways to advertise believe me...
just my thoughts on it..let us know what you think ..

Dan

I agree 100% with your comments…I just wanted people that are not as tied in as you are to understand there are some limitations. I believe that every Soldier that receives a gift from a custom knife maker should be able to have their picture posted, unit mentioned, and to let the American public see how the knife making community supports our Soldiers in combat…unfortunately, there are leaf eaters out there that see it differently. I do not see anything wrong with having a picture of the Soldier in uniform posted as long as his identity and unit patch is blocked “I agree”. I want everyone to understand that I’m with you, I’m not against you…I just do not want a good thing to turn bad. The above post was not meant to cause waves, but to smooth them out. The Soldiers appreciate everything you guys are doing for them, and really do appreciate your generosity.

Thanks from the boys that put it on the line everyday…

Custom Guys,

I received two awesome knives today (11 OCT 05) from Steve Woods…wow, what attention to detail. All of these knives are truly works of art…there are going to be some proud new owners of these great blades. Great work…I’ll let you know as soon as I present them. The Iraqi referendum is keeping us pretty busy at the moment…as soon as it slows down, we’ll be in business.

wow, hope someday to be able to make a knife fine enough to honor a good soldier.
but the way i feel about the military, not sure i could ever be good enough for them.

This is such a good thing that you all are doing...what a special event for the soldiers . Kudos to the makers and to CSM Hibbs. Preston

First I would like everyone to know that I will present the first knife on the 28th of this month…I will take pictures of the event, and make sure that they are posted for everyone to see. I’m still waiting for one Soldier to return from the States from recovery so I can give him his knife. These guys are really amazing…sometimes you don’t see it when you’re always surrounded by them. We are awaiting the citations to come back on a couple more, and then I’ll present them. I just wanted everyone to know that we appreciate your support…it really does make a difference.

Hey Guys
keep an eye out for
Tactical Knives on this event ;)

any up dates on new knives sent out Guys? :)

CSM Hibbs and I have been e-mailing one another back and forth for a few weeks now. I have sent several boxes of books of various topics, and a Swamp Rat SAR Rat with a black Progunner sheath.

I have been trying to talk him into taking a knife for himself, but he is far too much of a gentleman and caretaker of his people for that.

I'd like to congratulate all you guys for waht you're doing, and am pleased that Blade magazine recognized you.:D

Dan, you can put my name in the hat so long as it does not have to be soon. I can throw it in on my next batch. Completion sometime late Winter to early Spring (?).

Please advise and I, unless told otherwise, presume such knife is for real duty purposes and therefore is to be designed and made for such.
