1st Beckerhead Gathering

We will have limited resources for travel. Ethan has a gator that we will use to get there, but if you want out or forgotten something, well, Ethan and his gator will be at the big house, not at the campsite. The idea is we will be gatoring in our gear, and there we will be until its time to leave. This site is up the side of a mountain, and resting on a nice flat spot. E's place is not very flat, anywhere.

There are some fresh springs, there will be some areas to forrage for berries, and nuts, but really, if you don't bring it, you won't have it, unless you want to go get it. So, that's why I say pack it on your back, and plan for a couple of nights, sua sponte.

I just now looked at this thread and realized it's only an hour away from my house - very interesting. Hard to believe Ethan Becker lives that close to me. Anyway, would have loved to make this gathering if I wasn't going to be in Canada fishing then...

Moose, is this going to be a backpack in, campout ?

Don't worry Tim, Ill help ya pack in the beer. I know youll make me drink half of it anyway lol.

Bit off topic. I emailed you a while back about doing some hog hunting up in the cohuttas. Holla at me when you go again.

Hey Guys....

The site will take about eight or nine smallish tents along a narrow saddle....I will have a community tarp and fire pit.....I will be able to supply both potable water and water for washing up......We will have access to a variety of places to gather stuff---river cane, fatwood, cat tails, etc.......If you have particular skills that you would like to share please pm me or The Moose......I do not want this thing to get too structured but a couple of "seminars" probably won't hurt.......There will be ample opportunity to try out a bunch of blades, and not just my designs.....I have a reasonably large research "library" and am always interested in how other people feel about those other blades......

Getting back to the accommodations....Weight is not a problem.....footprint is.......

More to come......

All Best.....

Put us down for four trees 10 to 18 feet apart. Well..three trees if will work too.

I'm bringing a hammock as well, so that frees up a little more space for tents.
Originally, I was going to bring a bunch of knives to let people try, but since we're hiking in and up, the bunch will be drastically reduced to a couple of knives and a saw, most likely.

Will there be any other "amenities" or are we going wild bear style. Just making a gear list here....

Hey Moose, are there plenty of places to put up a hammock ??? or just tents !!!!

Hammocks are good to go, we would actually prefer hammocks, and save room for the tents, for those that don't hammock sleep.

Amenities will vary, but I would count on wild bear, and if E springs for a shithouse, all the more better.

Sounds like loads of fun. Once I become a Beckerhead this would be an enjoyable & fun thing to do to get away from the chaos!

Alrighty then, we gots us some dates for the Gathering. The stars are aligned, and the stars are in attendance.

We are set for MAY 20, 21, 22

The spot will be at Half Moon Ridge, the actual site will be determined sometime before the Gathering.

As was said before, pack for a remote site, no amenities, and what you can carry on your back. Contests will be the same, only we have arranged a celebrity judge, which will be a suprise to those in attendance.

Gentlemen (and Ladies), its on.

They'll be there, typical protocol for woodland eviornment. Look before you step.

As far as anything unusual, not that I can tell, copperheads and timber rattlers is what we have around here for the poinsonous, and a bunch of non poisonous.

Is it byob?

Yes, it is. Whatever you wish to have, you must bring.

I have no problem killing snakes, but Susan might, and trust me, we will want to stay on her good side. Men have died on the bad side.:D
