...I'll tell you this...I read your postings, and I actually agree with you 98% of the time, (which is darn near a record for me on these forums)...so, thank you, and keep up the good work. :cool:

But...I haven't toed the body, I don't smell any 'funk', and I don't believe for one bit that Simon'sez is dead and gone...and I won't until I get an ear...

That being said, I'm going to be a whole lot happier, and sleep a whole lot better, when this forum starts being a polite place...again.

I dunno, it could just be me, but after reviewing the archives, it seems that the folks that came before us, those that no longer post here, were a little more 'professional' than the current bunch...and I sometimes wonder if that isn't why they left...

Melvin:yep it is and real fast.It is really a shame and I don't know what to attribute it to.Maybe some of the young dudes that think it is allright to insult someone you do not really know or met.I hope it gets better.
That Strider Forum sure gets it going.The Strider guys are straight up guys,but some of their followers_______ :confused:

Off Topic. BTW Melvin quit beating yourself up. We had our ups and downs at first mostly downs :), but when we get together I have a feeling there is a friendship there to be developed. Who gives a flying crap about the past. It is only good to learn from and I learned from you.
 
I do believe that it is the anonymity of the internet that leads to people being much more rude. It leads to a lot of false bravado. It is however, what you can expect when there are as many people taking part on BladeForums as there is. You will always get the rude and ignorant, the wannabe tough guys, or the just plain wacko people mixed in with the rest. That is part of what makes a place like BladeForums as interesting as it is and it sure will never cause me to leave.

As far as what happened in the above situation, Todd did not deserve to get flamed for what he did. JonLL did not present himself well at all, but did not deserve the treatment he got from 1whobuys. The fact is that 1whobuys reacts that way to a lot of posts. He seems to think that it is OK to come into any forum and start posting in your face trash. It is up to the moderators to deal with him, not me.
 
I just want to add a little something here... I have done my fair share of jumping on people and getting in flame wars here on the forums. I have a problem with sometimes being way too blunt and a lot of people who don't know me can't handle that. Now on to what I feel needs to be said...

The other day when I finally got around to surfing the net, I saw the thread VG posted in general concerning the passing of Doc Walt Welch. I would be lying if I said I didn't have a tear roll down my cheek. However, more then being sad, it really got me thinking. Doc was such a kind hearted and loving man. He was willing to do anything for others, even forum members he had never met. It made me realize all this time we spend bashing each other and starting flame wars is just trivial. It's a waste of time we could spend getting to know people, like Doc. People who can make us laugh. People who can make you learn and grow. And also, people who at times can make you cry. The knife community is far too small and alienated from the "real world" to be constantly throwing flames at each other. I know trolls will always come and go. Opinions will always get heated. I know my post won't change an entire forum, but it changed me. All I can do is start with myself.

Blademan2002 posted through the same ISP that JonLL uses, but it's a large ISP with a lot of users. If he's not a troll pretending to be JonLL; if he actually is JonLL using a new account ... I can't imagine why. He certainly hasn't been banned; I checked.

A personal note: I'm finding it hard to take any of this nonsense at all seriously while I'm grieving for my good friend Walt Welch. Fear of net threats? Everybody who questions Bladeforums policy gets banned? Using multiple usernames? I'm going for a walk.
 
I have been a member for less than a year, but from the first nobody has ever treated me any way but good here.

If you don't like it here, just disappear. It doesn't require a grand announcement. People who are so insecure that they get all torn up by what some nameless, faceless entity on the other side of a computer screen says about them need to get a dose of reality.

I agree with Cougar...the net is real. Tha passing of Walt Welch and the outpouring of feeling that it inspired is proof of that. But this petty stuff doesn't make sense to me.
 
This crap would be funny it it wasn't so sad.
We have become a bunch of:
1) Thin-skinned whiners and ill-tempered louts who get their little ducky feelings hurt every time someone disagrees with them and as a result, refuse to believe that anyone else could possibly hold a valid point. and
2) Folks who just never learned to work & play with others.

People disagree here all of the time amigos, they just choose do it with a little bit of class. Behave yourselves.

I came here for other stuff, and happened upon this crap...

What Melvin-Purvis and Cougar and others said about Walt Welch.

If you were one to stir this s*** up, or post obscenities like artwork, you need to go read Walt and James Mattis and do some heavy contemplation of what's important in life.

I liked Todd's work and ingenuity, but that's not the issue. Neither is JonLL, although I hope he decides to stay and "take his medicine" like a man and eventually fit in. It actually impressed me when he changed his tune and owned up to his huge, ignorant mistake. Call me naive, but I like to think he has potential...

The real issue is that arguing amongst ourselves in this manner is degrading, stupid and shows any outsiders who come here that we are indeed needful of REGULATION, CONFISCATION, and perhaps ERADICATION.

I hope those of you who can afford gobs of high dollar knives can also afford some stationary and some time to write letters to the editor and such to combat the "anti-self-defense establishment." THE ENEMY IS NOT HERE AT BLADEFORUMS, IT'S IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD AND YOUR GOVERNMENT...

Or in twenty or so years, we may be here arguing over the merits of our government allowed limit of a half-dozen J.A. Henckels "kitchen tools" and a 1.5" SAK...

I could NOT agree with you more. However, the "ideal" BF community would be one where Fomites talked civily to one another on the public side, and saved the asbestos messages for E-mail. like I said, this would be the IDEAL BF.COM.

The REALITY is that there are some on BF (myself included at times) that do not read threads carefully, or jump the gun only to find out the conclusions come to, and the opinions Posted are way off the mark. Maybe a little more thought before responding to a post would be good. I certainly have learned this over the past 24 hours.

BUT GB&U is still the place to go to report good sales/trades, and purchases. And when someone feels they have been screwed they should try to resolve it through E-mail. But when 20 E-mails go unanswered, but the person who refuses all the mail can find time to write a childish post, then that person is not REPRESENTATIVE of a GOOD BF FORMITE

So I am going to read threads alot closer, and be very careful NOT to jump the gun and chuck stones. But I am going to continue to post on GB&U and any other place it is appropriate when I deal with another BF Formite, get the shaft, try to resolve it through far more E-mails than is REASONABLEand never get ONE Response back. This is NOT the way any formite should handle a BF "knife exchange". It is childish, immature, and reeks of dishonesty.

If that's the kind of person that is going to be part of the "BF Community", these flame wars and threads ending in seriously hurt feeling shall remain the norm.................This is IMHO........Ira

1WB's forced me out of the forums, how? by name calling. Stupid name calling. I thought thats weird so do others but the problem goes much deeper in the forums.

I would not want to be a part of this forum if thats the way members are treated and allowed to be treated.

I believe if your a PAYING member you can do anything you want to people. Or if your a big powerful company (like ATC) you'd better watch you ass for sure! They will ban you so fast it spins your terminal!

CLOSED. That has got to be a rare event on BF to close a thread before anything mean is said and before RESOLUTION.

I wonder if I were one of the big-guns who got shanked, would the thread be closed before the issue was resolved? Afterall, I did pay my 30 bucks, and the guy who now has my knives is also a

Afterall, he has ignored every E-mail I have sent, and has posted seriously false statements and then found the time to annoint me a TROLL of the USN. I though this was BF:mad: :mad: What does USN have to do with BF

I can see it know, a major league BF-er trades with another. He gets back a trade worth half the value. The big-gun formite tries to E-mail the other formite, but to no avail, so he come to GB&U. He posts his saga and gets accused of shipping a knife with a broken tip
AFTER a post appeared in GB&U saying how smooth the trade went and how great a guy the big-gun is. But now the Big-gun gets called a Liar. The Big-gun keeps E-mailing the other MEMBER of BF, but it's fruitless, so the big-gun returns to GB&U. He wants some satisfaction as he is now out some coin and by the hand of another formite!!!

All of a sudden, the big-gun gets called names, so the Moderator closes the thread without any resolution. I could see that happening to a power player on BF.................NOT:rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :mad: :barf:
