2,009 in 2009!

Chris- The 896K arrived today. I sent you an email, too. Thank you so much. I was wondering about the knife's history. Every knife has a story and I'm a romantic at heart (don't tell the wife). Also, I know that you gave it to me to be mine, but I wanted to know how you felt about me polishing it up. I'll definitely take photos either way, but I'll (try to) honor your wishes, whichever way you say. Like I said, that's a lot of history.

Thanks again!!

Your welcome!

I won this one from an ebay auction; it was a serpentine style that I didn't have any of, and the scales & shield were really what piqued my interest. The seller said it came from an east coast estate sale, and apparently it was carried (& loved) by the original owner for years.

Feel free to clean it up a little more; it's a good carry knife, so the patina will be back soon, I'm sure. ;) The shield is well set, the scales are flush with the bolsters with no gaps that I could see, and the blades were pretty 'snappy', once they were oiled. This one's just asking for an occasional rubdown with 3-in-1 oil. (Real 3-in-1. From the metal can. ;) )

Old Schrade carbon steel & 3-in-1 oil; a scent of heaven, right here on earth . . .

thx - cpr

3-in-1 oil? What's that?

I gave it a real good polish last night and then changed it's diet to Tuf-Glide. Still smells good!

Here are the before pictures. I'll have to wait for a sunny day to get some after shots.

It's setting on a bandanna.

The sun peaked out and I managed to grab a few pics of the knife after polishing. I didn't go hog wild, but it's a beauty. I convexed the edges as is my custom and it's razor sharp on all three blades.

And it's only "character mark"...

Nice job on the clean up. I am one of those weardo's who likes a shiny knife.;)

Boy, that one sure polished up nice! What did you use? I use Flitz to keep my newer ones cleaned up, but I just rub the old ones down with 3-in-1 for regular maintenance, or mineral oil for occasional kitchen use.

the scales are flush with the bolsters with no gaps that I could see

I should clarify: by gaps, I meant between scale & bolster, and scale & brass liner; although now that it's polished, I see a gap between bolster & liner now. I've seen a few with that gap between the backspring and the liner.

ps - what is 3-in-1? It's about the only oil my grandparents used (other than motor honey) for almost everything. I think it was what everyone used before the days of WD40. I like it because it's thin, and I'm sentimental about the smell.

I used Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish..."perfect for all metals". I just rubbed it for about an hour or so with that and rags. The rags were BLACK with carbon! Wow, I can tell you that my thumbs hurt last night!

You know what, I didn't even see your original comment about no gaps. The scales looks great! The shield looks great! I can see myself in the bolsters!

I've added it to my EDC and am very grateful!
