Looking for a smaller "weekend" EDC. I carry a Shirogorov 95T during the work week and love everything about the knife, just looking for something smaller for the weekend activities. I have a small CF insingo that I use now but after 1+ year of carrying it I want to mix it up a little. I prefer a locking non flipper 2-3" blade under 3 oz. I love carbon fiber scales but it's not mandatory. My budget is $700. I've looked at the Mnadi's, Lionsteels, William Henry's and some customs from makers here on the forum, but nothing has caught my eye yet. Any suggestions, links and/or pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Not trying to thread crap, but why go so expensive? Have you held a Spyderco Chaparral?

No problem. I used to have a Chapparal and it was a great knife but after buying a lot of different $100-$200 knives every year I decided awhile back to sell them off and buy one or two 400-$700 knives a year instead. I know they all do the same thing, I just really enjoy the attention to detail in the higher priced knives.

Quality over quantity, smart way to go

From what I have looked at, your best bet would be the 3" gemini from Rod Olson. CF scales, Tighe looking design, good steel, button lock, and a nice look. $550.

The only other nice 3" I can think of is a rockstead, but that is $950.

William Henry knives look OK, but a bit too dainty looking, kind of like a knife that the queen of england would carry. The materials are top notch though.

Those Stubby Razels look awesome, I could live with it being a flipper, if only I could find one???

Burnley custom squid if you can find one
Or, Something out of the South African Knife Maker's Guild, many of my favorite makers I like to eye candy over (Like Thornburn and Burger) hail from there.

I'm not sure where you found that info, the 3inchers are around $700.

OP, grab yourself a Rockstead Hizen in YXR7. You'll thank me later;)

I checked knifecenter, the Rockstead Kou was $850 with dlc and $950 with just the ZDP. The Hizen is $710 though, so that'd be the best option then

I've been eyeing the Rockstead, I'm just not sure about the duralumin scales. I'm not a fan of aluminum handles, how do they compare as far as feel in the hand?

I have a Chi, and it feels great in the hand. At first glance, you may think the Duralumin feels "cheap" but if you further examine the knife, you will appreciate the level of detail and craftsmanship. The Chi has a steel linerlock, and the Higo/Hizen has a steel lockbar insert.

Stop by the Rockstead Thread to ask any questions:thumbup:

3 oz is awfully light, but perhaps that's a good weight for you. I think $700 is twice as much as you should spend for a darned good folder in CF.

It doesn't have to be a $700 knife, just looking for something in the mid tech/custom range in terms of quality. If you have some cheaper alternatives I am all ears. More than 3oz wouldn't be a deal breaker, just looking for something on the lighter side.

Yeah I've looked at the Neon, very tempting but I carry a Shiro 95T during the week and want something a little different for the weekend. My Shiro is the best knife I have ever owned though, it is amazing.

Thorburn/Van Heerden colabs are supposed to be nice. A2 A5 meets your specs and budget.
