What do you mean by no clay hamon? How were the hamons done?

In stead of laying out some type of refractory clay or cement to get a hamon, I hold the blade at a certain temperature and then quench it with nothing on it. Using a specific temperature and soak time you can get a highly active hamon without using anything on the blade.
