This is question to Jerry Busse or other Busse official to clearify knife use. I will appretiate keep this thread quite and intrelligent.

I have 30 degree edge damaged on my Game Warden - you proably know about this - I saw replay in other thread. After all this posts thread was closed. But I have still questions:

1. Does 30 degree angle considered as drastically altered paper thin.
2. If so what agnles range is OK for INFI edge, what angle will not be considered modification, but regular sharpening.

I have number of Busse knives and need to maintain proper edg for theme. I add 30 degree to all and if it is wrong, I need to fix it to prevent similar damage in the future.

Thanks, Vassili.

How do you plan to use your knife? I think that will help determine the appropriate edge geometry for the knife.

I don't know what Busse says the best angle for infi is but I put a 30 degree on my folders.I still end up many times with slight edge damage on them with just normal use.
On most fixed blades I use around a 20 degree.I have not really reprofiled any of my Busses yet,I just hit them on a crock stick or free hand them at close to the same angle they can from the shop at.
I short IMO 30 degree is too thin for a fixed blade unless it is only going to be used for fine slicing or on a kitchen knife.

Jerry can be reached through PM or email, so why are you asking here.

Send him one and I'm sure he will get back with you.

Well, Spyderco puts a 26 deg angle on they're folders, with a 40 deg microbevel. so I would hope INFI could handle that. Maybe your original measurements are wrong Vassili, and that angle is much smaller than you thought? If not, put a thicker microbevel on it, and it should clear up that problem.

In the pictures you showed in that other thread, the edge seemed to me to be considerably less than 30degrees, even with your dishonest attempts to make us believe otherwise by showing knives other than the one in question.

Spydercos do hold up well to the thin edge but only if they are used right.
I have had damage to the edge of a few Military and Natives by having them hit hard items. It all goes back to what you are using the knife for as to how a thin edge will hold up.
If you grind infi down to a paper thin edge there is no way it will hold up to heavy impacts,no steel will.

i know you want to keep the thread "quite and intrelligent"
but you gotta know bringing loaded questions here is not going to make you any friends...call Jerry, something you should have done a awhile ago. And don't provoke the HOGs....it's Christmas, be merry:)

I would say that INFI holds an edge as well or better than any steel out there. If you stick the edge into hardwood and start twisting the knife around, any steel will come out of alignment a bit. The knife that you showed had a very fine edge, which was indeed altered by you, twisted around in hardwood, and it still took a micro-shot to show it. When you showed subsequent shots of the edge from even a few inches away, you could not see anything.

What are saying? That INFI is an inferior steel?

There are mountains of real and anecdotal evidence that it is the finest hard use steel available.

Jerry reply once regarding this damage, replied here, I feel I can ask him same way and I do not have PM now. I think it is perfectly valid question to ask Busse about.

Thanks, Vassili.

Sorry if it is not appropriate question to ask here. Please remove this thread.
My appologies.

Thanks, Vassili.

You may not have PM privileges, but I assume you have e-mail and/or a telephone and the appropriate answer has been given already. I see no good reason to bring this discussion here, you already know the types of responses you're going to get. You seem to be just pushing buttons for your own amusement at this point.

Edit: Never mind, good choice on having the thread closed.

It is. It is. But asking it on a public forum opens up to the answers of others as well. I think you ought to appreciate Busse knives for what they are menat for: heavy use. On the other hand there are many other knife makers such as Tom Krein, Eddie White, etc. that offer knives much better suited for thin edges.

I sincerely hope to own a Busse one day and beat it to hell and back and smile at the end knowing that I could be set for life with ONE outdoors beater knife.....

Although, you know, it might NOT be a bad idea to have a post with the best range of angles to sharpen INFI to, depending on the use. I mean you can probably go paper thin if all you're going to do is slice.

I'm lazy and just freehand sharpen the factory bevel.
