Oh and the wood is Ironwood. Should have known. :o

Hey Patrice -- You are doing very well resisting your urges to add any wild design features to this knife. I hope you aren't having to do anything too rash to manage your hyperactive creativity impulses. For instance, perhaps you're really wearing those gloves because you don't want us to see you've chewed your fingernails to the bone, or some such? -- All the best, Phil

I too am worried about you, Patrice. You don't seem to be yourself. Please insure us that the alien overlords have not abducted you and replaced you with a nearly exact replica whose fingers are somehow the telltale clue to your non-human status. Remove the gloves on the next shot. ;)

Looks great. Really nice style

Why do you guys keep pushing me out of the box?:(;)
The gloves are an effort to hide my dainty hands.:o
And don't worry, I still have a thing or 2 planned that may restore your faith in me. ;)

Thanks

Nice Patrice! Looking forward to seeing this knife. The more I admire the work of other knifemakers, the more I want to be a collector too!
+1 but then it comes down to the more equipment and supplies $ vs buying knife $ lol

Just out of curiosity, is there a reason you twisted the bottom part of the handle about 20 degrees off the way the front part is oriented? I noticed that the striping/colors aren't lined up.

William, I am also with you there. I wish I had enough funds to do both but I don't so I have to prioritize the shop/materials. Someday I hope.

Greg, actually it is more 180 than 20 degrees. It was a design choice and maybe a bad one in retrospect. With the width of the spacer and the way the striping was, it didn't look exactly right even aligned so I choose to flip it around so that the more figured part was in front on both pieces. I may regret it but it will be a learning experience.

See, that's what I mean. You can't help yourself. If you keep doing things like flipping wood around so the grain doesn't match up, we may have to arrange for intervention to get you some help. :p

Where is the intervention Phil? Been waiting for you all week. ;)

Latest progress.

I was suppose to keep this simple. :(

Thanks Calvin, it's only a start. A few more "grooves" are planned. Ironwood is hard stuff. Should help me make it much crispier.

Progressing slowly. How does this look?

That is Gorgeous Patrice. Looking forward to seeing the finish progress. That iron wood looks really great.

Wow Pat that one is really going in the right direction!

The one I mentioned is still on the bench  been going through a lot lately, with the wife being sick and a few other things on my plate, like trying to build a new quench tank.

But with the other blade you posted at the beginning of this post, we are going in two different directions. Even though my blade is shaped similar to your Persian dagger. It's not going in that direction. It is headed in this direction.
This is a stock photo of a knife that just spoke to me to build it!

I was inspired by an old issue of The Walton's, the character Boone Walton appears in two issues of the show. This is similar to a knife carried by Boone Walton and is going to be my first through tang knife. Anyway not trying to interject into your thread but here is the blank. The shape is the only thing similar to your Persian dagger, and even that is slightly different!

Mine will be more of a skinner Vs a Persian dagger. Anyway like I said that one you are working on is going to be an out of the ball park homer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the good words Dixie.

Yours has a nice shape too. It's the first time I go with such a curved tang as you also did. I am curious to see how hard it will be to fit the handle with that. I'll definitely use some epoxy to set it. No way I'll be able to get a tight fit with files/broach. Looking forward to your progress. It won't be twin blades that's for sure. ;)

See, didn't I tell you you would sell this one? And now the good stuff you are doing even though that has happened !!! Tells us you are still going for it and doing it ALL as you think it should be done !!! Super, Pat, super !!! Frank

You must read minds Frank. I did decide to stop thinking about the selling part so much and go back to doing what I envision. That's what my Dad use to do when he was making his sculptures. And I am having fun again in the shop. If people don't like it it doesn't matter. Well of course it matters but I mean as far as selling is concerned. Thanks for your good words, I wish we'd live closer so we could work in the shop together. I am sure we'd get along great.

Here is the latest progress pic. Just did a quick buff so I can see where I still need to sand the handle. A lot still to do but but I need to make a sheath first. Not my favorite part.
