2 questions about Spyderco Mule Team

There's a post somewhere on Spyderco forums (Mule team section) where BBB described SRS-13 as a "Stainless Cruwear". Not sure how accurate that is but it's a fine grained PM Steel, That can achieve med-high hardness. I'd think this would make a fantastic mule for Kitchen use and testing.

The SRS13 now has a limit of One. I know I'm disappointed since I wanted to get another 2 Mules for kitchen duty to go along my my 2 Magnacut. Unless they change the free shipping threshold to $75, I'm going to pass.

I'm glad they reduced the limit to 1 for each account/order. Sal must be listening. :)

This makes it possible for the greatest number of people to get one at the release price.

If you want to get free shipping, just buy something else worth $75 at the same time.

If they were already going to ramp up production of the Mules, I don't see the point of limiting the quantity to 1. Unfortunately, I don't need anything else that's $75 to get free shipping and can't bring myself to spend $13 on principle for 1 knife. I'm sure everyone that wants one will be able get one if they are limited to 1.

Sucks to see the limit change.. I very much like having one for use or modifying and a spare..
An extra 26$ now...

So be it, I suppose..

With only 500 produced a limit of one per household is right since you want the most number of people to try one.

I'll just wait for the next Mule that lets you buy at least 2.

I have 2 Magnacut now to use. I have too many knives to pay a premium for them. More for everyone else.

Was interesting watching the comments, Over on Spyderco forums Mule Team discussion, About the initial 2 per household! Does seem that in today's environment, The segment who makes the most "waves" usually gets their way!! I'm still happy to have a chance to get the SRS-13 Mule.

Even at 500 I think your odds are very good. I believe there will be minimal interest in this release. The MagnaCut release was probably the pinnacle of this long running series. Tons of excitement, tons of frustration, tons of exhilaration, tons left with a bad taste in their mouth.

We had a few Mules "in-the-works" before the MagnaCut run, (which we squeezed in). Some of these Mule Projects take a long time to just get the steel, so quantity changes were not possible. Once we get past these few small batches, and get into the larger quantities, we'll go back to 2 per household and try to learn the best quantity to make each run. Your kind understanding and patience is appreciated.

Still available 2 hours later.

It's an odd steel and it's not surprising to me that it's not selling like hotcakes but it's still amusing to me that ppl won't buy one because they can't buy 2.

Kinda like "cutting off your nose to spite your face." Oh well . . .

Yeah, I think the ease of purchase was lighter demand, Not the beefing up of Spydercos e-commerce capabilities!

I plan on sticking some scales on it and putting the SRS-13 Mule in the kitchen! The family gets unlimited use privileges....should be the best testing our house can muster! 😎

Thanks for making me a liar. I was going to pass but i had a list of things I wanted to buy and mule just jumped in my cart.
I’ll throw some scales on it and let the wife torture this mule as a kitchen knife.
thanks Sal for having such a unique offering. It’s fun to see different steels react to use and sharpening.

This steel is perhaps too esoteric for most. Also, Spyderco had no Mule Teams from October 2017 to February 2021 (3+ years). That built up demand. Then, in 2021 Spyderco released 5 Mule Teams which is quite a bit. Additionally, most of those steels were very popular and perhaps should come back for another round: SPY27, S45VN and MagnaCut. Specially SPY27 and S45VN since the quantities were low. From the more distant past: LC200N, 20CV, 4V, K390.

Except for MagnaCut (MT35P) with a run of 2,000 the other 4 Mule Teams from 2021 (MT28-MT30) had a run of 500-550. I’m assuming the other 3 Mule Teams which were already in the planning stages (MT32-MT34) also have a run of 500-550?

I'm sure if it isn't moving too quickly, they'll open up the limit. Sure seems like it's getting harder and harder to serve up mule Teams to satisfied customers?

sal
If the quantity does increase to 2, I'll gladly pick them up!
