all cardboard came from same co at same strength. the leek out of box was very sharp & did 50 12 in. cuts before quit shaving. after polishing to 6000 on edge pro at 24 degrees & light leather stroup i made 50 cuts with each knife. both still shaving hair after 50 cuts but the buck would slice telephone paper somewhat easier in straight line.both had blades with cutting edges nearly = but the leek sliced easier since it had a more slender blade which reduced friction & lateral stress. for surgery & lighter tasks my choice would be the leek.all around usage goes to the buck since it could also handle some outdoor camping with rougher usage. i was surprised at the leek since earlier kershaws i tried were'nt as good performance wise.--dennis this is no rigid empirical survey but it does give some info

Thanks for posting, glad to see both brands performed well. Is that the smaller Vantage Pro?

the vantage pro is the standard size, i try not to actually dictate to members how to interpret results. whether this leek means the other upscale alloys of kershaw hold an edge is not a conclusion i'm free to convey. this knife was a good performer but others in past have been marginal. in fairness to kershaw i usually buy other producers since their models do'nt cater to my taste.---dennis

executives that spend more time on the floors of their factories seem to keep quality control at higher levels. it's embarassing to see major players of a company trumping their products so voceriferously in a forum. dennis

If you're having problems with Buck, Busse, Chris Reeve Knives, Lionsteel, Sog, or Spyderco, start another thread. They've got people who can answer those concerns on the double.

Really? Your complaining that the executives not spending time on the floor but on here is embarrassing? In what way? Blade forums is the largest internet forum dealing with knives. Paying attention to what members say about their company is simply good sense. Many of the knives we buy and use come about because of the feedback received here.

I have nothing to do with Kershaw but come on thats just silly.

Take it easy

Ummmm ya. Jeez imagine that I actually get to keep my Kershaws now.

But I got to ask you did ya think that there also might be a diff since one is hollow ground? Or is that irrelevant for you?

Translation: I'm butthurt over getting called out by Thomas W. for all my Kershaw trolling and wish he would go away and let me troll in peace.

Review the knife, Dennis, not the company or its representitive. Keep your uninformed presumptions about T.W.'s business to yourself.

personal attacks on myself give zero positive info to the test conclusions. as to hollow grinds flat grinds generally have less friction coefficient than most edge planes. it's good i did'nt get into technical info as to percentages of carbide formulation, rockwells & bring other alloy factors into the tests.this group & as a whole really do'nt have much interest in steel performance. nearly all comments have been inflammatory with little discussion of edge abrasion. it appears from the replys that personal adjectives are the forte of this crowd & i guess any further testing would hold no interest for concrete encased brains.i'm moving on since the tests require some material & effort & i would prefer to converse with individuals more interested in alloy performance. if i stumble on to another zipper edge cpmd2 i may discuss that with people somewhat more intelligent. my opinion of kershaw has shown one knife that cut & if you ninnies look at photos you will notice that knife has a crooked blade. guess i can use it for a catfish weight since a gift to any friend would be insulting. later dennis

Your hypocrisy is astonishing.
To Planterz ; Amen!

I just dont believe it. You flame a company that has very good products for the money, and most likely the best in CS. It has a member of its team that comes here and answers most questions with a personal email, and you are worried about what we think of you?

You really need to come down off your high horse and look at the personality you gave here. You invited the responces you got, and in some twisted peverted way I believe you actually dig it.

Why is the tip of the Vantage all gnarled up? Poor sharpening technique?

There is seriously something wrong in the head with you dennis isn't there?

Gentlemen, I just closed a thread because the review had become a review of the reviewer. Don't do it. Do not violate BF rules against personal insults.

What Dennis did was a good test to see how close the 2 blades were, cutting 50 Ft of cardboard with each blade gives a good indication of how they should perform.

The results were positive for both knives and seem to be pretty even when cutting cardboard.

Cardboard can be a good test medium for testing as it can be very hard on edges and very abrasive depending on the cardboard used. It can really tear an edge up very fast from what I have seen from my own testing.

The results are meaninless because they do not have the same blade geometry:

"but the leek sliced easier since it had a more slender blade"

It's like comparing tangerines and tangelos, the steel is the same, but the blades are not.
